I haven’t flushed a plant in years bro, and I have done a couple of tests, take 5 of one strain and flush, and keep 5 and not flush.’the difference at the end of the day was less weight. And some flavor and finishes in the Tl terp dept that def suffered from a flush.

you do lose weight from flushing earlier.

the difference imo is unflushed herb you get a harsher choke say a week after you bag it. the flushed one would smoke smoother by this time already. just try it yourself, instead of saying bro science.

I'll take actual science over anectdotal musings. But, if flushing floats your boat, go for it, just know it does nothing.

"In a first of its kind study, Rx Green Technologies evaluated the effects of flushing period on yield, potency, terpenes, mineral content, and taste characteristics of Cannabis flower. Overall, the length of the flushing period did not impact yield, potency, terpenes, or taste characteristics of Cannabis flower. Taste test results indicated a trend toward improved flavor and smoke quality with the zero-day flush. While there were no significant differences in nutrient content, there was a trend toward increased iron and zinc in flower flushed for 14 days. The results of this study indicate that there is no benefit to flushing Cannabis flower for improved taste or consumer experience."

Peace out!

@mobshit and anyone else that believes that flushing changes the characteristics of their final product....

What do you think is happening when you flush your plants those last few weeks? What is it in the action of flushing that is doing what you think it's doing?

I want to try and understand what it is that drives people to accept something that has been presented as truth but has been refuted by the scientific method. I want to understand how someones senses can be tricked into thinking something is happening when it isn't.

I'm not trying to belittle you in any way. I'm just trying to understand why someone would accept anectodotal evidence over proven evidence.

I'm also curious how @mobshit and other adherents were able to come to that conclusion. Was an experiment done like a side by side where they can have immediate comparisons rather than going off memory of the same plant they grew 4 months ago?

Because I can taste the difference man, you can listen to papers all day without testing it yourself.

I've done the side by sides many times to confirm it wasn't just that one cultivar. Never tasted a difference.

The first time I did this I was under the same belief that you are until I actually did the test. I kept denying it but after 4 or 5 times I realized flushing did nothing in regard to taste and smoothness. That's when I started to search for any science based results.

I harvest the roots in my RDWC systems for medicine,
I put straight water in for a day or two to get the nutrients taste out of the roots .
It is not psychoactive, roots will not get anyone stoned , they are not addictive and they will interact with other drugs.

so you are telling me after you dry the product and toss it in the bag to cure. If you took the samples out to smoke and compare. The herb not flushed doesn't give you a headache after say a joint vs the flushed one?

Correct but......I taper my nutes down towards the end of my runs so I'm doing a sort of flush without actually flushing. Maybe that's what you are doing and it's just an issue of semantics but if you're flooding your media with straight water thinking that by doing that somehow the water going through your media is going to pull nutrient ions out of the flower to smooth out your smoke you have growing then I disagree with your method.

Maybe I'm not understanding the actual method you are using so I'm going to reserve judgement. What I do know is many studies have talked about how flushing stresses the plant out and can stunt growth. I don't want my plants getting stunted 3 weeks before harvest.

I taper mainly to save on nutes as I've found that doing it this way encourages the plant to use up the ions that it has already taken up along with the sugars it produced during photosynthesis. I've done side by sides feeding full strength up to the day I chopped and I didn't notice any difference in taste or smoothness. I've done a side by side like this at least 5 times with different cultivars and have done taste tests with side by sides the master growers at the licensed grow ops I've worked at did with the same result.

Would you recommend organic growers do the same in terms of removing as much nutrient ion in the plant to smooth out their smoke? Most growers that I know of that flush do so to remove salt in the soil if they are feeding with synthetics. I've found this to be unnecessary if you are feeding them the correct amount of nutrient.

That guy from strain hunters (arjan?) says unflushed herb tastes bad. He has been smoking longer and has a better palate than I do.

Why is it that new info on a website or podcast is immediately taken as fact? I bought one of Dr Harley Smith's products; the dude has misspellings on the package.

Been smoking weed since 1967. Been growing since 1972. Under HID-1000w lights, since they first came out in 1977. Ive done side by side 3 times, and found flushing, useless, and in some cases, hurt the final outcome.
Also, while of course I dont want Chemical Choke.
My main interest is plants/strains, that will choke the fuck out of you.
Back in the 60s, and 70s, all of the very best weed, would choke the fuck out of you. Few Exceptions.
