I tried to use the search feature but couldn't find anything, so I'm sorry if this has been asked before.
I'm at roughly 3000 feet in Northeastern California. I've only grown outside a few times, and always from clones, which I put out probably a little late (July 10ish each time) When is a good time to start seeds to go outside? I have Cat Piss and Pure e-32, and I don't necessarily want trees... Thanks for any advice.

Meow this is just what I think......

Holy week is what I have always been told. It depends on moon cycles which helps germination of seeds. You can grow some monsters without supplemental lights when started on this date. This year the dates are 3/29 - 4/4, which is very early. Good luck brother.

Why holy week changes from Google

  1. It's the first Sunday, after the first full moon after the vernal equinox - which is when night and day are the same length. Answer: It's the first Sunday after the fourth full moon of the year. Hence the reason Easter can movearound by up to four weeks.

Hmmm, so those are two very different answers. I guess any savings on not firing up a halide early will help...

February.start indoor under florescent so you can determine the sex then get ready to plant around middle of May.anytime before that everything will start to flower.

I like to start around April or May. I do NOT like to have to light them and/or keep them indoors, and trying to start earlier out here has not worked well, what with the weather being so unpredictable and PG&E costing what it does. Trying to get ahead only got me behind.

I'm in the central Sierra Nevada, possibly south of you, at 2,500' elevation.

Trying to get ahead only got me behind.

I will third this. If you want very little problems and very rapid growth all year, then sprout your seeds mid April and throw them strait outside. The longer you keep them indoors the better grow room you must have. You must keep the plants in rapid growth, and if your lights are not powerful enough, you will actually hurt your yields over the long run. If vegging indoors you must keep the proper light schedule. That requires knowing what date you will throw them outside, and trying to shadow that light schedule.

Like Blaze said, "Starting too early often only creates more work and more problems and does not get you bigger plants at the end of the season."

This is an excellent nugget of truth right here. Starting too early often only creates more work and more problems and does not get you bigger plants at the end of the season.
I know this is true, because i start too early every year. :rolleyes:

Ya I start mid april and most strains still end up being around 6 footers..pure Indys end up around 4..don't grow pure sattys but I'm sure they could end up at least 7 and I'm a lot more north then u

I check the sun-rise / sun-set calendar for my area to see when the day is longer than the night, I find mid April is when the days are 13 hours long, so that's when I start them out, I put the seeds in the seed starter mix a few days before the full moon...

I threw some plants out mid July last year and a couple yielded over 3lbs and were 12' tall.

I have seedlings just going into flower (light dep) outside right now
and more getting 3 hours of supplemental light. those will be flowered in the spring

edit to add, Central Cali

I plant outside in SoCal with no light assist.

If I planted here two weeks ago,
<maybe> half of 'em would flower;
if I planted 1 week ago,
<maybe> a quarter would flower;
if I planted now,
<maybe> none would flower.

I'll start planting in a week or so;
the earlier they get started--
the more prunings I can get in during the season...

Here's some volunteers--
cultivating mycorrhizal fungi like good little soldiers...

^^^This one may have that "Chemdog marker"--
I read about somewhere around here...

(They'll all be removed--
the only volunteers I'd keep are sports...)
