Mini AMPS

I'm lookin' at some Dr.Z amps right now. If there is one thing I like as much as new beans its new amps!

I really like Brad Paisley as a Guitar Player these days and he's been running Dr. Z for a while now. That guy really blows me away. In my opinion, he is the best singer who plays guitar in my Generation of country musicians. I would find it interesting if anyone challenges that opinion. Brent Mason doesn't sing. Keith Urban is super as a show, but doesn't hold a candle to Brad as a lead player. Did I miss anyone...

My guitar player in my Metal Band is looking at the Orange Little Terror guitar AMPS right now. There's also a VOX Night Train which is very similar ala VOX. These little AMPS seems to be the ticket right now. I went to the NAMM Show this year and these AMPS were stealing the show. Those Mini Z heads are super cool also. Good luck!

Keep us posted with what you end up getting. For a long while I was a gear whore (speaking only about myself). This is until I discovered that all the gear in the world can't make me a better musician. Though I love the good stuff, I know it's all in the touch.

Discipline got me to the next level and missing a few nights sleep rehearsing for a gig way over my head.

As a side note, I got a pro opportunity 10 years ago. My chops just weren't up to the task, but I knew the right people and had the job. That is until the project began to rehearse where it was clear that I was the weak link. I was kindly moved in to a production position rather than fired (due to connections), but I can't tell you how much this hurt my musical ego. It hurt so much I vowed never to let another opportunity like this pass me by without giving the best effort I was humanly capable of.

This last year another opportunity came my way (again through working connections). To put it mildly, I missed a lot of sleep and food practicing for the opportunity. When the make it or break it moment came, I was not the weakest link for this project and actually did OK. Everyone in the project could tell by my loss of weight and loss of sleep that I was dedicated and suffering because I wanted to do my best. I am proud of doing my best. I could humanly do no more and knowing this enabled me to hold my own against the producers. I even had to argue my musical parts at times, and without the extra practice would never have stood my ground. I ended up knowing the music better than the writer of the musical at times. This often revealed itself with a wink between the hired Guitar Player and I. I really hope this project gets a green light one day where I can let everyone check it out. So cool paying tribute to a sad, lonely and misunderstood humanitarian.

PS: Any musician reading this, don't make my first mistake. Stay up all night and do what it takes to rise to the occasion. If you push yourself to your limits you can't look back upon yourself with regret.

Tonight I went to an AA meeting (totally stoned). What a trip, such a good place for those struggling with their addictions. I have never had a drinking problem, I went to support a friend. I felt so welcome there and can parallel much of my life and struggles to the stories I heard. I just hope others (specially those who need it) can find this support system as valuable as I did. I have heard so many rumors about cult like behavior and such, but my experience leeds me to believe you get what you make of AA. If I was a drunk, I would way rather be an AA yuppie, at least they leave their house and laugh a bit. That was my first AA meeting and I am sure I will go again. Very interesting and really just a good place to see some honest people.

Yeaaah I just love finding new tones to work with. I buy an amp play it for a little bit then sell and get something new. I think I'm gonna keep my orange rig though. So nice. Dr.Z has some of the best tone I've ever heard, I love it. Ben Gibbard from Death Cab uses one too and it sounds illlllll. I've been buying pedals like maaaaaaad too lately. I love a good analog delay, I'm gonna pick up the TC nova delay, and the EH Holy Grail reverb this upcoming thursday. I played the TCN at guitar center on their shitty equipment it was chained down to and it made me shit, so I GOTTA get it on my board with my rig. It's perfect for what I need it for. The Holy Grail is a sick reverb that I got to play with a lot at practices when I was in my old band since the singer had one in his guitar rig.

Nice setup Winta

Very nice setup Winta!

I have a lot of friends in Denmark who really got me in to using a lot of the electric tools for music. My favorite software synth is the entire Native Instruments library, mostly FM7 'cause I am an old DX7 guy.

I recently got in to using StylusRMX and Omnisphere for inspirations. What's really cool is that you can use RMX for your beats and Omnisphere for your tones, they link together. If you look in some of the torrent websites, they have the full versions of these software available. RMX has a backbeat component which has more rhythms in it. Just a little FYI for those in the software synths. For e-precussion, I use the D-16 line of tools, and I purchased ToonTrack EZDrummer for my basic beats.

I will try to post a link to a version of DR. Feelgood I did on EZDrummer a few months ago. I laid down a basic bass line with no effects and had my guitar player lay down some magic. This is a pretty damn good karaoke version if I dot say so myself. I will figure a way to post this.

For years I used Pro Tools, and I still use Digital Performer live for tracking, but I have all but switched over to Cubase primarily due to VST. I have a version of Blue Monday I did all VST using Cubase I will post as an example of Total E-Music. Cubase isn't really easy to get started with (some silly setup issues), but once you get going I think it's fast, concise and capable. I use two Motu UltraLite's as my sound cards for my MAC (two in case one fails live or I need extra XLR in's). All my tones are generated on a super PC I built for this task specifically. I have a EMU sound card in my PC so I can run the soft version of the Proteus Libraries.

I have a project called D'orchestr@ which is an 80's cover band live show. Most everything is midi I created all myself (no downloading junk midi files). My goal for this project is to locate a great singer who works for cash and is cool with working as a hired gun. I wanna have 1 Lead Vox, 1 Lead GTR, myself directing the music (keyboards & Bass) and a keyboard player. Everyone in the band has to play e-drums from time to time, e-pads located all over the stage for drumming. The goal for tracking the music is to allow those on stage to be really entertaining while they play. I basically took the Top 100 80's songs and tracked about 30 of them so far and will finish up all the rest as the project get's going one day.

Let me try to post a few mp3's. I will link to them or something through facebook or myspace. I will get back upon link completion.

thats whats up my dude! i love native instruments bro! the fm7 is the shit! another one i like is the mach 5. and vst's are the shit i use them in fl studio with my own sampled drums from mpc's, sp 1200's and random drums i snatched here and there to beef up the sound cuz their default shit dont have that pop or warmth i need :) if u like cubase fuck wit nuendo bro thats the shit! n.e.r.d/neptunes swear by it (so did all my iar teachers lol) the sound is bigger than pro tools or logic if u do 32bit float, the default reverbs, chorus, etc are real soundin not that punk ass shit they got in pt lol and all vst's work in it so its a win win! i got both but most people that come through here have pt sessions lol

Holy fuk'n shit!!! I didn't think anyone else knew who rectangle was. I havn't heard it in a while. I used to throw after parties in DC and B-more. Rave parties like Rise And Fever. I would hire the dj's and rent the place and throw down from 3am to 10am. Dj's like on e and dimitry. I had Dj Techniques and Feelgood spinnin some. Techniques lost to Rectangle in a battle competition. Took second though. Rectangle did some sick ass scratchin behind the back moves and even jumped up and used his crotch to hit the fader and never missed a beat.

After the after party I would go and listen to the newest records available and get something new for the next weeks party. B-more would be jumpin off at 10amish on saturdays for a couple hours bad ass dj's like tech would open the new goods and spin them until someone bought it. Sometimes it would be seconds. It reminds me of a drop here at the farm. Everyone trying to get in the crowd to score the next bad ass break beat. Man I could go on for hours about mix music amounst other things I did in DC and B-more. Craziest shit I'll ever do period!

Hell yeah bro.. !!! I love me some rectangle and the old school parties back in the day.. Sounds like you had a wild time back in good ol day.. Good to hear your stories and wish we could jam out together.. hahaha :D
