I dont see how checking in the shade shows the max canopy temp?

Because the bulbs emit radiant heat which the thermometer reads but that is not the temperature you are interested in. This radiant heat is about 10 degrees F.

Do it how you want. But temperature is never taken under the sun.

Yep mines read about 8-10 degrees different

Yeah sure. The temp the remote reads directly under the lamp is only a degree or two more than outside the lit area in my well ventilated room.

Its 76 at the canopy and 75 where i took the pic right now.

It doesn't feel hotter to my hand and the leaves feel soft and cool.
