Sounds like a loose connection (at the brown spot) was generating excessive heat, causing the thermal mechanism in the breaker to trip. Even though the current was within limits, the thermal-magnetic breaker was doing exactly what it was designed to do= trip when the heat is excessive.
While replacing the breaker guaranteed a second call wouldn't be necessary, the breaker was probably OK -but a bad connection most likely was the culprit.
Sound reasonable?
