There are 2 spots in my tent with the Optic 8+ (COB style lights) that if a bud is in that spot it will white the tip. It's repeatable across different genetics.

It's something to do with the 120* lenses and a spot where they all coalesce into a spike in PPFD. I can actually prove this on my current grow if you want to see it.

That said, for me it looks like a huge chunk of crystals and sugar, and seems like it would be super potent. Digging deeper and measuring the THC of the bud, it's just average and the plant is just light bleached. I've tested this out a few times now.

What you have going on may be very different than my situation, but yeah, light bleaching is real and does not increase THC.

I'll try to dig up some pics.

From what I've read, light bleaching can be resolved by moving the light away allowing the bud to heal and will rectify itself. White tipping continues to spread down the bud no matter where the light is or what the light source after the buds white tip. I had an auto that started white tipping here in Alaska. I moved it outside in direct sunlight and the white didn't change, just continued to spread down the bud tip, affecting the flowers from the top down. It seemed like the flowers would bloom again and the bloom was bright white and extremely terpy.
I harvested most of the plant except for the central bud that had white tipped and the end buds on three branches. I let that flower grow another two weeks, harvested it and then forced it back into veg, harvested the seeds that resulted.

The white tipping I'm getting started in the middle area of my platinum 600 lamp, pic below. It started center lower down and is spreading out along the buds going up the plant. Almost like it isn't caused by the light and more like the plant has changed it's blooming process throughout the plant. The white tipping buds fluoresce under the light. I've added UVC light every couple days using a UVC disinfecting hand held light. Seems the branches I am treating with UVC for two minutes are growing larger than other buds treated for 30 seconds. I'm playing around to see what the results are going to be, stronger weed or some other result.

Yup, that's different than what I am referring to.

UVC huh? That seems to be a thing around here lately.

UVC has been associated with a massive increase in THC and other cannabinoids along with an increase in terpenes. I'm pulling this out of my memory so details are incorrectly described but the process is known. There are molecules in the plants that are responsible for THC production that get broken in half by UVC and the production of THC is theoretically doubled. That one molecule producing THC splits into starts producing twice the amount of thc. In studies done on it which there haven't been many, the actual THC production goes up 20 to 50% on average. They are using it as an addition to the full lighting system and turning on a low UVC source for a certain set amount of time, 45 minutes up to 2 hours in the latter phases of flowering. The way I'm doing it is using my UVC about a half an inch away from the bud and holding it still for 2 minutes. Then a couple days later I'll do it again for maybe a minute on the test subject growth and then I will hit the whole plant with UVC so that every bit of growth gets at least 20 seconds of extreme exposure. What I want to do is get some Himalayan cannabis seeds and see if I can get the extremely high THC and cannabinoids growing them with my UVC wand in a controlled growing environment that they get on the high mountains in the himalayas. Those cannabis plants receive a hell of a lot more UVC than anywhere else in the world. The last time I checked was 5 years ago and it was going to cost me $90 per seed. I'm not ready to fork at that much cash on something that might just turn out to be a flop due to my inability to get the same kind of irradiance that they receive in the natural environment. That is in my future though it's part of my plans. Turns out near and far red light also does a hell of a lot for the production of cannabinoids. That might also have a lot to do with the white tipping. The lights I have are full spectrum UV all the way to far red and I've only used it on two crops so far.

I grew a strain that was variegated exactly like that from Lupos called Woodlands Digital. Still have a pack. Was good sativa leaning bud with an orange taste. I have pics somewhere.

I wonder if sativa's or sativa dominant strains are more prone to white tipping. My sativa started white tipping at 3 weeks, the other two plants are indica dominant hybrids and at 6 weeks I'm seeing the beginning of white tipping on a couple buds. The sativa has at least seven buds obviously white tipping and more starting to show. So many questions and not many answers..... Yet. I'm looking for answers in my grow and am honestly just confusing myself at this point..... Not enough firm answers and many more questions popping up. I wish it didn't takeweeks to months to observe the results of my experiments. One thing causing me angst is I have no idea what the strains I am growing are. My niece mixed up my seeds, emptied six strains I had into one container so it is potluck whenever I start seeds.
