Im running a wire from my one room to fuse box. The lights can be powered by 120v or 240v by simply changing the powercord. I have 3 1000 watt Quantum ballasts. The equipment will run for about 12 hrs a day. My question is with the formula. Since im going with a 240v will it bring the total amps to 12.5? 3000w/240v = 12.5amps. and then my 240v 30 amp breaker will be fine or do i have to go with 240v 8/2 gauge wire 40 amp breaker. thank you so much for your time and input.

you need to have 12/3 for 20 amp, and 10/3 for 30 amps... 8/2 you have 1 hot and 1 neutral thats for 120v, 12/3 has 2 hot and 1 neutral thats for 240v

when using 240v it allows you to run twice the amount of lights. i was running 6000w off a 30 amp noprblem check the wires running to the breaker from time to time to make sure there not to hot.

i have 10/2 wire 240v double 30amp breaker. Im getting mixed answers on the gauge wire. Some are saying 10/2 some are saying 10/3. I want to make sure i install the correct wire so my electrician can just come to fuse box and connect it. the equipment is 3 1000 watt Quantum ballasts. thanks again for your responses.

10 is the gauge and the 3 is the number of wires in the romex... right? (i think -lol)

for 220 you need the three wire because all your doing is putting 2 110s together to make the 220.

the thicker the wire gauge the better if your drawing a lot of juice - so I would go with 10/3 or you can call the electrician and see what he wants you to run...
