Hi everybody, hope everyone is doing well!
I wanna ask something that ive and a couple of friends are talking and realized tho, i just want to ask if someone happened that cannabis used to be stickier 10 yrs or 15yrs ago than now, even if genetics now are "super frosty" and THC labeled, beside all marketing and cake/cookies/mint terps and the same crosses again and again, even if theyre compact and well preservated, grinded are pure dust.. ive tried some oldschool classic genetics from normally "trusted seedbanks" that is still there like skunk, white widow and family, used to have a mazar very sticky and thick, and i remember that was sticky that even you cannot smoke a join due to this grease sticky oil you can't take your fingers off, cannot even roll sometimes.. but those oldschool isnt the same tho.. Tried different soils, feed with different brands, but the results are the same, even if the plant its frosty or have a nice look its like a terps, stickiness and high have been changed so much, only WW save some old odor and sticky full frosty but nothing special low acre lemon odor.. Realized that many genetics nowadays induce paranoia or a very unpleasant stoned high, no matters what they said 50/50, 75/25, its always the same high.. Used to enjoy some non anxiety, couchlock, meditative, giggly and VERY funny ones.. Its only me? Are the years of consuming? Are the genetics? Are the lights? after years of growing on indoor, im changing my mind that outdoor is like raw, better in many aspects as far, maybe not look like a frosty queen but make the difference.. could be this?
A couple of friends realized this too.

The thing I remember about really sticky buds is you didn't really need to put a cure into them, you could just dry and smoke and you were enjoying potency that gets lost during the cure. They're still around, I think people have just gotten stupid or lazy about how they select their phenos for a run.

People say weed doesn't smell as strong either and based on some of what I could find, it's attributed to a shift in preference among breeders selecting more fruity, sweet and creamy aromas which are produced by gaseous compounds, and they have been selected over the stronger pine and skunk smells that were sulferous based, and now with a lot of cannabis genetics, those sulferous compounds have been pushed into the background and don't stand out. I often here it's been bred out and I don't think so, I think it's just been buried. If we like them, then people need to work with the strains still exhibiting them (good luck finding authentic skunk #1) and go through several generations of pheno selection to bring it back out and more prominent in the genetics. So what else can we do? The research I've done suggests making sure you've got good sulfate availability in your medium at the right levels at the right time. So, little things like epsom salt and potassium sulfate in there while it's stacking is supposed to help a plant live up to its best genetic potential for being a stinker with more sulferous compounds.

My very first run that gave me a harvest was white widow photo.
I know exactly what op is saying. I had a few flower runs finish very well and they were tacky to the touch. It also had a transfer stickiness that really clogged up trimmers and your fingers. Much tackier that the Apple Fritter I have been growing.
But the apple fritter when done well is much more potent than the widow.

I can agree both ways.

But I bet if anybody quit smoking/ using for a month. That any of the strains today would turn u into a zombie, with half a joint.

I did after being in the hospital for 12 days. All I did was 3 one hitters of some meh weed, and I was out of it.
Other than that, I need to smoke nearly 1 1/2 joints to feel high anymore. But I smoke a lot, anyhow.

I'm looking to growing things more Indica heavy, so I don't have to smoke so damn much. 😆

No matter how much tolerance I've built up, I've got two particular strains, a Durban Poison and an Ice Cream Cake, and if I hit them together I'm greening out on the bed for 15 minutes. It's something about the two together and I haven't found any other combos that can clobber me that hard and neither one alone does it. We need to delve deeper into the full spectrum and not just the flagship cannabinoids.

I've had that happen a few times thru my years of smoking. Still try it with the weed I've accumulated.
Even had some that increased taste thru what I was drinking, at time would've been Pepsi.

This last harvest I had a good example of this, the old school haze is very sticky and the heads seem to break easily. The other stuff I grew was much better for the types of hash I make and seems waxier? I cant say one is really stronger than the other, very different though...

Thanks for response people! How ure you doing?
Theres a lot of things outhere.. When im talking about the high i describe the high like neutral one in particular, and isnt couchlock relax state, and a hint like bad brick weed stunt, its a like you didnt exist for one and half hour but like a benzo style, like complete zombie, you didnt relax, didnt laugh( doesnt have too much duration, sometimes hybrids sativas too, ive tasted like ive said a WW cut that hits for 2/3 hours easily ) its a special thing that i find in some last 4 5 years of new label genetics, ive have a cut of critical mass that put you to sleep in a couple puff but with a smile and the best of meditative relaxs that ive ever seen.. even in lowbucket grows who sell some 10 15 yrs old strain isnt the same tho...
I like and enjoy a lot the cannabis that ive grow, but in my mind i have some goals to reach and a lot of learn, many things are subjective in terms of smoke.. some people dont look for terps or bud quality, but only hit high thc over 25 percent and production, doesnt matter the residual harsh product that could end.. but if they like it no problem.. I had one friend that have a particular taste from the nuts that they use, very harsh, productive and same acid aftertaste in all genetics that he grows, but if he like it good for him..
In my case i found this late years my grow method improves and still keep being the same because i like it, but same genetics that ive growed many times isnt the same that ive smoke many years ago, i like the pungent odor that you could smell over 50m ago.. and i cannot get that anymore long time ago, even buying or taste samples from friends.. Thats why ask that maybe is me, my odor taste fails.. maybe im getting old lol.. Maybe its too common due to tolerance or some smokers develop this issues over 14 yrs of smoke cannabis only daily, i swear my memory can remember that idk afghani? smell weird odor of a mazar that i had when i was a dumbkid and it was lovely, very similar to when you open a beer, like a very strong funky ammonia hop odor, and many more.. or a sativa that ive had from high quality brick weed seed found that after 13 weeks of flowering got a mango coffe smell that i cannot explain man.. people look at you like, bro what are you carry? Remember open a jar with my friends after swim, and a guy from a balcony screams "haaarvest timeeee" haha.. I miss those days..
BTW this "So what else can we do? The research I've done suggests making sure you've got good sulfate availability in your medium at the right levels at the right time. Is soo interesting, i will make a research about that, thank you.
Sometimes when people talks about skunk 1 i really ask myself if i really smoked or not at least 10 percent of the real skunk 10 11 years ago.. and its sad because you ask yourself, what really means skunk in all terms, describing, intensity.. And not only with that one, ive heard that from many people too, that true sour and kush are unreachable..

You might consider doing a little research into "steering" terps. We pick our strains for their known potential to produce certain smells and tastes, but the outcome of taste and smell can vary not just in intensity but also in particular notes based on nutrient and microbe profile. If you're a soil grower you want to think not just feeding the plant, you also want to feed the soil. For all the grief and nuances that come with growing in soil, the payoff is what those microbes are doing to help those buds be the best they can be. So an occasional recharge of mycos and microbes and making sure you feed them with things like molasses, kelp and compost teas goes a long way toward giving you good smoke. I started incorporating that around my third grow and that's when I started saying wow, and I grow outside where smells and tastes usually amount to "meh."

Thanks for reply, actually im growing in soil, a rich one ive tried many, i cannot make one right now because im too busy and didnt doit before, but we have an extense brand, but we have a nice local guy who makes a rich organic compost, beside all of that im only use a little bit of non organic nutrients and im very aware that nutrients can distort absolutely the entire product, ive been tasted the same genetic with 4 o 5 different friends like i said before one of them like one in particular that leaves a harsh metallic taste, isnt organic and he like it, he have 3 genetics that taste and smell all the same, that sub odor and metalic harsh aftertaste.. Like ive said, if it was me i like to grow out and not in pot cause always leaves a perfect taste and high on final product, beside all fancy bag appeal ultra frosty pics of indoor grow, outdoor its something special.. But i cant, dont like to use 10 products for one plant and the soil is already prepared, so i use like u said algae products in soil and sprayed, molases a lot, little bit of guano and one thing that never failed me and never left any toxic aftertaste was bonemeal, only 4 things, ive tried with and without in the same grow, along with fishmeal that was too strong in my opinion, and bonemeal had excellent results obviously is slow release, so i put in early stages.. many colleagues do living soil, some of them claim they are super pro weed, but it isnt, they do living soil but for economic purposes and spray all the veg with solid insecticides who leaves a toxic damn taste in all smoke.. So the final product isnt good, they didnt put effort or love, isnt art, isnt medicine.. recently ive only taste good outdoor or 2 living soils that was awesome CLEAN AND LOUD AF terps, but i mean clean.. A blueberry like your eating a true blueberry.. but those people have many years growing and theyre not too much ultra science based..They are like the classic guy who didnt won nothing or dont know nobody and grow the best weed of the place around KMS.. Like classic topic experienced guy who grows along 10 years vs a guy who study agricultural engineering along 7 years and didnt grow in his entire life but dares to criticize or says the absolute apex formula to grow cannabis.
