Worm Farming Aka Vermicomposting!

Dump and sort method is going alot faster then my previous sift and sort method.. Seems alot more are alive then i thought there just Sluggish as fuck.. So i made a small bucket to put them in and brought that inside to warm them i'll keep filling the bucket till all the bins are done then i'll dump that bucket and show ya the results..

A worm farm 360 or 2.. is starting to sound like a better idea tho tbh, i didn't wanna break the bank for one but i may just ask for one for my b-day i don't have the hands or back ability to keep this shit up its just young mans work lol

Almost done! Happy to report ive only lost maybe in total around 100.. Not bad at all most of them are still alive :D

Done! and my back is on fucking FIREEEEEEEEE....

Started raining so i hada do the dump and sort inside..

Next pic is the bin before i dump all the worms back in..

Last pic is the bin full of fresh castings and a ton of eggs i'll sift that thru 1/8th screen when it drys more then re-introduce the eggs to the bin..

So I decided to take some advice given here and start selling some of what my worms have created, I won't get into specifics as i don't 1. Want to advertise and 2. Don't really wanan give you guys the same idea :P Cut into my profits hell no :P

But i will say this.. The worms create alot of shit and theres niche markets for everything they create.. EVERYTHING.. I just wished i would have thought about trying to make money from this crap sooner lol

I do expect a surge of business from Seattle if the news i read a while back is correct the city is going to start enforcing mandatory composting bins for anything deemed compost-able it has to be composted or you face fines for throwing it away.. They were like that about recycled shit when i was there so i wouldn't be surprised if they choose this as well.. Go Green!

So anyway anyone who is not in the worm business should maybe consider something locally / regionally supplying the needs of growers and farmers alike, I know one guy whos buying from me atm has the word hydro in his name lol so hes a grower! Then you have people who just wanna compost or wanna make tea or niche market for other things if you can figure those out you got a nice little business made from piles of shit :D

Always here to help if anyone needs tips tricks advice questions comments anything :D Worms are fun!

One thing id like to figure out is a way to brew and sell compost tea without it ever going bad..but without some form of constant oxygen supply to the water theres no way to guarantee Safe and viable tea for sale outside of locally..

Food for thought for any inventor out there who can come up with a solution to that i'll invest :P

I really think you'd be well served to invest in a purpose built upward migrating worm farm. It pretty much makes worm farming effortless.
I like it cuz its self contained compact and efficient. I harvest between 1 and 2 gal of verma a week. I paid $80 for mine and its made in usa.

Honestly after your post i looked into the worm farm 360 pro's and con's and after much debate and consideration into what im doing now ive decided the worm farm is really not suited for my purposes at all and the single bin dump and sort method while tedious works best for my needs :D

I harvest around 35 gallons every 2-3 months longer if im lazy sooner now if i have sales that require it :D

Burry the food under a cpl inches of DRY soil and sticky traps above the bin, Other then that naa there going to be an issue i got them too :\

Im actually doin the sticky trap thing and I use moist paper on top of the food. Do you think the paper is as effective as adding a layer of dry soil?

You could actually brew up some composting tea and pour that over the food spot, Ive done that on horse shit and all the flies / bugs were dead and or gone!

Have used the tea to water my farm a cpl times as well now that i think about it the bug population does seem alot less then it used to be.. :D

NO Wet paper towel will only seek to harbor the bugs and give them a moist place to lay eggs, You want to discourage that by burrying the food under DRY soil, The worms will find it as long its not any deeper then 6 inches :D

LOL Yeah they can get pretty thick , Ive got a small wet spot where the worms have uncovered and exposed bare food, its like a free for all for the bugs atm i needa add some peat moss but im lazy lol

I have zero flies but I do get weird beetles that I think came with the worms, I put all the food scraps in a blender with some RO water, then poor the sludge on the top and cover with paper shredding's from my cross cut paper shredder, that prevents the flies and adds carbon to the castings.

just ordered my worms, i actually found a place not too far from me, didnt have to pay importation fees, and only 3 day shipping...ordered 2 lbs of worms from one place, and a huge bag from another...the other place does not sell by the lb or by numbers, they sell worms that come in their own bedding already high in microbal life, i plan to use this as a starter mix, and then add my other 2 lbs to the bin...got me a 189 liter rubermaid bin...should be good to start....worms start getting here in 3 days

Did you mean 18.9 Liters? or 189 Liters? lol Cause 189 liters is like.. 50 Gallons lol

Ooo Also @Joe Fresh Do not forget a light ( bright but not hot ) Dont use hps :) Over the bin for 2-3 days else your going to find those worms crawling all over your floor when lights go blink ;)

Light forces them to acclimate to there new home after a few days there chill and light can go out and they can remain in the dark 24/7 and won't try and leave the bin till conditions become intolerable :D
