pretty much every medium that has organic matter in it is going to have bugs in it. Fungus gnats, thrips, springtails and anaerobic bacteria can all thrive in bagged media, especially if it doesn't have enough ventilation and/or is subject to frequent environmental change. I either mix in OG Biowar packs directly to the media when I open the bag or I'll water in with OG Biowar tea...this time of year I'll do both as it's prime time for bugs.

Ok thanks everybody... In the past I've used FFOF, the hydro store where i get all my soil from said to stay away from it. He recommended Roots Organic Emerald Mountain? But when i looked it up to get some reviews i came across they've had pest problems as well. I purchased the Foliar pack for broads but never used the others. Can the root and nute packs be used in the same tea?

Organic soil and gnats are made for each other. If your outside, does it matter? If it bothers you that much, Triazicide as a soil drench for the chemical route. Only need to soak the first few inches of soil. Triazicide doesn't get absorbed through the roots. For simple organic remedy, sprinkle 1 inch of play sand over the soil. I've been using play sand for 5 years. Works great.

PHI on Triazicide is 21 days. When the failsafe, non-chemical method of defeating fungus gnats has been found, I'll be in line for it! I've been working Cap's teas hard and *still* have enough fungus gnats to cause some autoflowering. It's completely depressing. Hopefully going outside will resolve the problem quickly, before anything else shows balls or hairs at 3" tall.

IME I've found pest like gnats and root aphids in almost every plain & amended bagged soils whether peat or coco based!! Gnats suck, I use Sea-90 @ 1 tbsp/gal and it kills the larvae to disrupt the cycle for a minute but the adults don't get stuck on the sticky traps eventually lay more! I've been experimenting with Gnatnix and it seems to be working, the buggers aren't touching my SFV or any of the Stardawg F2s I harvested recently .....definitely will be picking up more shits just expensive!

Are you just putting that Gnatnix on top? I got some gnats too its supposed to slice them up because its made from glass.

Yes, about a 1/2" to 3/4" layer .....it shifts when you're watering so pour your water slow & evenly. I see you gnd got a grip of it yesterday, you hit a lick I believe I've been paying $11 a bag for it round here.

I've mentioned this before, why don't the soil companies use a recyclable material similar to potato sacks or Smart Pots instead of plastic? I'd pay more for a quality product and I know others would too!
