Hi everyone I live in Southern California and I was wondering how many of you actually grow all year round outdoor. How many of you grow outdoor during the winter season here in California. I did it last winter with good results

I'm currently on my second outdoor crop for this year. I harvested my winter crop in mid February I put down 2 plants (213 OG clone and La Diva from Delicious seeds) in September of 2013. The La Diva was finished by November 29th.

About 2 days after harvesting I received another 213 OG clone and 5 days after that I received 2 more 213s. I also started to putting down seeds all different strains:

Shiskaberry
White Widow (Royal Queen Seeds)
Big Bud (Vision)
Tijuana (Blimburn)
Northern Lights Auto (Royal Queen Seeds)
Think Different Auto (Dutch Passion)
Critical Auto (Blimburn)
Amnesia Original Auto (Dinafem)
213 OG (from seed)
and 10 bag seeds that were given to me by someone who had been collecting them for 20 years

By mid March all the 213 OGs started to flower.

As of April 16 2014 Northern Lights, 213 (seed and clones) are the only ones flowering.

So that's my crop. There are a few more but none of them are really flowering yet. I did start flushing 2 of the 213 clones and more to come on that.

Back to my original question.
How many of you Cali growers grow year round OUTDOOR? tips or tricks?

and

Any of you try DWC outdoor in SoCal? I'm thinking about giving it a shot want to know if any of you have any good tips or tricks on running DWC outdoor?

Thanks.

Yep way to cold and rainy here in the North state and snow in the mountains and foothills. You could do year round with the right greenhouse set up here.

My son has done multiple crops OD in SoCal, but he hasn't quite gotten down the photoperiod manipulation so he sees a lot of revegging. He spends more time battling spider mites than almost anything else.

Welcome to the farm!

I hear you on the spider mites, @Seamaiden. I had an all-out war with them this past August-November. Got some Safer 'End-All 2' and this organic spray I was using, really did the trick for me.

Me and my friend grow year round outdoors backyard in SoCal. From April to oct , then from Oct to feb. Winter batch always low yield but great flavor and has to be kept in full sun . Also use shaded areas to sex cuttings in early spring so males can be culled. Don't document any of the outdoor grows. It's just FFOF and FF powdered nutes, so short on pics. Here's a Purple Apollo clone going from 18/6 under T5s to outdoors Oct15. Yield was small but potent.

Year round grower here. In the winter I run seeds, they act like auto flower and stay small, and for clones I veg indoors then flower outside. The colder weather brings out all the colors. It does get really windy so placement is a key factor! Thanks digdug!!

I have to be one of the lucky ones I dont want to jinx myself but i really haven't had a bad pest problem yet. Im actually growing on a lot that consist mainly of asphalt. Im in an industrial town in Southern California. I also use transmission netting for my plants so the plants are still getting light and being protected by the elements.

The colors that come out are so beautiful there is nothing like a cannabis in the winter.

Here is a picture of my 213 OG I grew outdoor last winter. Nice purple and green.

You do get lower yields in the winter but what your plant does yield like Steely said makes up for in flavor and potency. The OD winter 213 OG crop was an up feeling and fruity pebble smelling now my spring 213 OGs are more have more of a fuel/citrus stench to them. So far they where much more frostier in the winter.
