Hi there. I'm growing two autos Jack Herer and bio- hazard. I was growing my last autos in 3 gal smart pots and I noticed the roots were all the way to the bottom. I accidentally bought 10 gal smart pots duh!!! Is it ok to still use them?

Cool thanks. Also this is my first time using fox farm soil. How long shoul I wait to use nutrients? I was thinking around 3 weeks from seedling?

Fungus gnat soil, hope you have a top dressing. I put my ffof in a pillow case and pour boiling water over it to kill the larvae before I use it. It comes pre infested with pests.:cool:

What type of top dressing would you recommend? I haven't planted the seeds yet. They just opens this morning. And I don't want to screw these up. I just harvested critical Jack and it turned out amazing!!!

@3N1GM4 you have gotten a bad bag or you left it sitting around for to long.
Not all Fox Farm soil is infested. I have gone through around 4 bags and have zero pest problems due to soil.
@LCB1969 I would put some seed starter soil in middle of pot and start seed in it, the FF soil is a little hot for Autos,but yes wait until week three or so.let them tell you when to start feeding.
Organic,or synthetic nutes?

@LCB1969 10 gallon pots are a bit big for autos so they might not fully utilise the pot space, but you can definitely still use them. I would agree with STR8 the centre of your pot should be seedling soil for the plants to start in. For nutrients I would advise that during the first 2 weeks you give the plants only water and root stimulator. root stim is a must if you are going to make the most out of your huge pots.
you can start introducing nutes at 14 days above ground at 1/4 recommended strength Then whatever nutes you have half the recommended dose to begin with and slowly build up the strength

i.e. recommended= 2ml per litre
you give= 0.5ml per litre at week 2
you give= 1ml week 3

My hydro guy told me that ff puts hyponaspis miles bugs in their soil because there are naturally fungus gnats in the soil when they mix it. I recently had miles bugs all over one pot before I started puttng boiling water on them. Maybe my hydro store guy is just bulling me?

Thank you for all your help. Everyone kept telling me fox farm is the best soil to use. Now I know for future reference.

I don't know,but I just bought another bag with no bugs so far..

Hmmm I have water boiling now to kill any bugs. Is this a good idea?

I put mine in a pillow case and pour boiling water on it, it kills everything alive but washes away some nutes. I would rather have no bugs than extra worm castings.

I just did the boiling water and I hope it works.

I do not run boiling water through mine, but to each his own..

Happy frog is Fox Farm. Fox farm is the company name, it all depends on how your supplier stores their product,they are the ones with the infestation. Do they store it outside or inside?
As I stated before I have not had any problems with their soil, I'm using it now..
