It'll cool some but not full capacity. How cold do u get?
It gets sub zero in Michigan. i am trying to go totally sealed room to have total control over the enviroment. But its getting complicated and almost seems like a waste of resources. Excel Air says with there low ambient kit there system will cool in -20 degree weather. Im trying to find other less costly options. I know one option would be non sealed room in the winter and sealed in the summer. But if there was a way to keep it sealed year round, that would be my first choice.

Hey john, what mini splits would you recommend for a 20x12 room(sealed) with 10 gavita 750s? 2 3 ton singles(36000btus) or 2 3 ton double(18000btus) units, I'd like to run the singles to save a little money. Or do you think I can use 2 tons instead if 3? Norcal area

3 ton single put better air out the fans on the dubbles are week.

Same question here, would like to know more from others in Canadian climates.

He suggested to me a couple pages back to use outside air for cooling. I'd have to research damper and thermostat control setups to do that. Smell could be an issue as well.

i use outside air for about 5 months of the year here in michigan, basiclly if its below 55 to 60f outside i run 2 x 6 in vortex to pull in air from outside run from my cap enviro controller and a couple dampers to keep out cold air at night.i also put pantyhose over the pipe to filter out any bugs that may be out there like today it was 62f.heres the damper style i use https://www.plantlightinghydroponics.com/active-air-backdraft-dampers.html
i do have a low ambient kit on my a/c and it probably came on a few times today between 3 and 5 pm during the warmest part of the day.but it wont turn on once it drops below 50f outside so i really dont need the low amb anymore lol.this method is cooling 12kw of lights right now and 5 of those are gavitas plus a 760w led.all the other lights are 600w cooltubes.this is the controller i use,it will handle 15 amps of fans https://www.planetnatural.com/product/co2-temperature-controller-air-3dn/

So I have a homemade, grow closet. I made it out of 2x4s and panda poly wrap. The "door", is just a huge piece, with Velcro around the sides. With that said, I don't have a completely sealed room... I have a box unit, modified just go run two closets. I have two, 300w mars hydro panels, two 250w Apollo cfls and one 400w hps w/ air cooled hood. I also have all ventilation equipment, fans and carbon scrubber. I'm just asking for a game plan, or "what would you do"?

Hey john I wish I came across this thread b4 I installed unit. Question, I have a 3 ton Fujitsu dual 18 heads. Running 12 600's uncooked in a 28 bye 13 8 foot ceilings. I've notice when running both heads in same room they are less efficient , almost like running 1 18k is cooling better than both. What would you recommend I do . But a single 3 ton head for that room . I'm try to tweak it

A 36 unit will only output 33 or so. You probably need a little more a/c. Or something is wrong with your unit.

first I had a electrian cross wires from head to condenser , then had a freon leak behind 1 head . Seamed to all b working well after but noticed it doesn't seem to come out both heads ice cold it's either 1 or other . Why I think I runs better with 1 head but then I would only get 18k cool correct? Forgot to add I have a 12k window unit in wall with boxed rear vent into chimney .

Might still have a leak or not properly recharged after first leak found and repaired. That would allow 1 indoor unit to run cold when only one is running but not be able to run both cold.

CannabisJohn,

Thanks the awesome support. Do the Mr. Slims also dehumidify? Id like to use a 9k btu unit for a single 1k bulb in a 4.5ft x 4.5ft x 7.5ft space and was curious if the unit can act as just a dehumidifier if the temps in the room are not high enough to trigger the ac unit on. I would really not have to get a dehumidifier if avoidable.

Also, can the units be programmed for different temp settings at different times of the day? For example, 80degrees during the day and 70 during the evening?

Any help is appreciated, Thanks!

Yes, but not a lot....guess it depends on the size space you're working w/.

Yes. Very programmable.

They are top dog units. Always think big when you're buying gear. You won't regret it down the line..

Between me and some friends we have about 30 Daikins going and had none fail that was replaced under warranty. I started with the daikin a few years ago and they have performed great for me. You do need a different thermostat for programming but it doesnt cost that much. Will the slims switch between cooling and dehumidify on ther own? Example, lights are on ac kicking keeping room cool and dehumidified, lights go off room no longer needs cooling will the slims switch over to dehumidify on there own and pull moisture without cooling the room/ The daikin will not as far as I know and they pull a ton of moisture out when the lights are on but sit idle during dark period.

Was just noticing the daikins at ACwholesalers a couple days ago, damn things are more expensive than mitsus, lol.
You need a seperate dehuey for lights out if your sealed.

I get the 24k single head from a friend for 1700 bucks . They are the low seer cheap model but they work great. Just put in a ultra low ambient, high seer 36k single head in for my dad and that unit was about 4100 bucks. I have been using the quest 205's for dehumidifiers but I don't see why the mini splits can't change from ac mode to dehuey automatically, they have both capabilities but will not switch modes by itself.

I dont think minis are made specifically to dehumidfy its just a side effect of the process that when it runs it does.At least your running a really efficient dehuey, less amps to run it then to run ac during lights out but i hear you on having to buy another expensive piece of equipment.

They don't do that. You would need a server room type unit to dehumidify without cooling. They are expensive.

Because they would need to reheat the air before discharging it or it would be cooling. So electric reheat would have to be added and control scheme completely redone. Becomes very very expensive. There are units made that can cool, heat, dehumidify, and humidify all from one unit and only doing one process at at time. They are for server rooms and are extremely expensive. More than an a/c unit and a separate dehuey. The dehumidification done during cooling is required in order to cool. Think of dew on your car in morning when temp is low. Cooler air can't hold as much moisture. That's why a/c units dehumidify when cooling.

Thanks for the info. I have a good friend that is a tin knocker but he works with large industrial stuff , he gets us great pricing on the splits and let's me borrow equipment for installs but he doesn't know much about the units we use.

It's cheaper to buy separate a/c and dehuey units than combining them. Check out cost on a server room unit such as Liebert which can heat, cool, dehumidify, and humidify from one unit with only one process occurring at a time. They also can control very precisely the temps and humidity. They cost too much for our use IMO. Guess is 5-8 times the cost of an a/c and separate dehuey.
