Hello fello green enthusiasts, I have a few questions if anyone could help. First off this is my only second run, I am running mills nutrients. 400 watt HPS on 1 plant in flowering. My last run was Afghan Mango, in flowering she was a beast. Beautiful, Smell kinda funky. I got over 4 1/2 ounces. Great Yield for 6 weeks Vegging. Although When it came to the drying/curing process I feel like I did something wrong. The buds were hang dried in the same room at the other end. I put a black cloth overtop for darnkness (heard dark was better) and left about a foot underneath open for circulation. In three days the buds were really crispy. Nugs evaporated in your hand if u put any pressure. And for it being only three days I figured shit I over dried it. So i rehydrated it with humudity and put it i jars ASAP. Its been about week and the nugs are not wet really anymore. They look hell of alot better. But the smell has honestly kinda went away, you have to pop it open to get a smell and there really is no taste. Also the buds are a little fluffy, not dense. Which is I figured was from me over drying it. Could anyone please give me some tips for where something prob went wrong? or am I right that I just overdried it too much and it lost its smell/taste. Smokes okay, Burns fast kinda though and def does trick but its a deep creeper. I posted a pic of final product as of now.

Congrats on the harvest. What temp is your room? High Temps can lead to fluffy nugs. How high are you running your light? Drying improperly can lead to bad or no smell. Should take longer than three days at least 5 to 7. Not putting you down but 4 1/2 Oz for 6 month veg is terrible even with a 400watt. You will be able to do that with 1 month veg once you figure out what works for you.

lol. I meant 6 week Vegging. My room does run a little high around 82ish in temp.

Ok good 6 weeks is much better than 6 months. When I read that I was thinking man this poor guy is clueless. Genetics makes a huge difference in smell but if it smelled good pre chop and not after drying then the problem is in the drying method. I see a lot of new farmers go wrong on that crucial step. It's easy to fuck up a good thing when it comes to post harvest. Also over feeding can cause fluffy bud.

Yeah I figured it was the drying process that I went wrong with. I am actually glad it came back to even look like what it does now after how dried up and crispy it was. It looks great just no smell or taste and well gotta have those too! I think il try drying in a different room next time, could the humidity while its drying cause it to dry so fast? like I said 3 days and it was crisp. my plan was 7 days.

Hit the search button for "curing" your buds...
Im sure there are plenty of discussions about this....

There is a sticky thread on curing. I used it my first time and all was great.

I find the one day off one day on method with my deheuy works well. I am usually around 82 degrees in the dry room. Takes about a week. Then i trim, xfer to jars, put jars in the fridge @ 58 degrees, and burp once a day for 10-15 mins, usually about 2 weeks and no more gases escape on burps. I wouldn't recommend goin any colder then that, and definitely not in a freezer. That works for me tho, and my meds always smell prime, ive had 9 month old lemon diesel that blew my socks off, shit smelled like the first time i trimmed it up still. Grats on your first grow under your belt, only gets easier from here.

Genetic is a factor - use the 7-7-7 rule of thumb for drying and curing : 7 days drying at 70 degrees with 70 degrees RH when curing - look into Boveda packs for proper curing use 62% RH packs - just place in jars. also when growing in flower stage a plant needs "carbs", ect for better terpenes production - consider Bud Candy and Factor-X to use in flower stage - Hope this helps some ?

I use Aphrodite Extraction "Carbon" and "Zyme" on top of mills. does my meds look like they need better terpenes production?

NO - but one can all ways improve them Go to "Grow Med University "(interesting stuff on tics' - think you will like information) Peace

Put your plants in a dark room for about 10 to 14 days .keep room temp 55 to 65 degrees, keep humidity in the range of 50 to 55 with rotating fan for air flow so mold don't become a problem.AFTER 10 -14 days ,the stem of the plant should be to the point that it snaps but be very careful to not over dry, trust me you will get better with this method the more times you do it,after you dry it put in mason jars or a c vault with boveda pack for atleast 14 days.I choose to burp it but I know some people don't and just depend on the boveda pack but that's entirely up to you.this method produces some of the stickies buds you will ever see my man ,plus you don't have to worry about your bud smelling like hay.On a side note I use Aphrodite extraction ,terpinator and Herculean harvest for my final flush ,you can smell the goodness from a mile away!!!! Peace bro and I hope you find what works the best for you

It should take you about 10-14 days to dry like Rocktoto said. Definitely less wind or higher humidity where you are drying the plant. Also to get really good smelling flowers you need to have the right strain. I Think you may have also harvested early.

Hawkman, with the boveda packs do u still need to burp the jars? And can Boveda return smell/taste to product that dried so fast it has no smell/taste. I've had the same prob with supa low humidity & very quick dry.

Yes - still burp for a week or so - and yes if brings back aroma, taste ,ect after about 30 days, - even put some bag weed in jar with packs" and it rejunivate's it.. They work very well

To me it looks like the buds were taken early leading to less dense bud which is a temperamental dry at best.
You bud looks beautiful but those red pistil hairs will usually get eaten up as the calyx or empty seed pod starts swelling around the pistils. This is what adds the density to the buds and would take longer for them to dry. All of the other info suggested here is also spot on for a better cure.
