So after a really fun off season its about time to start farming again... After many unsuccessful attempts to lock down a new place I could call my own, I was forced to farm the same two amazing places I did last year.. Sometimes its better not to force something if it doesn't feel right and just continue to do what I have been doing-- and real estate prices in my area are absolutely stupid expensive and not worth it for me right now to invest in just a grow property... So anyway Im going to upgrade half of my plants to 300 gallon smart pots and get about 100 yards of new dirt delivered.. Gonna do 85 or 90 percent Blue Dream and 15 percent San fernando OG ---Gonna see if I can get the OG to really produce massive numbers because its what everyone wants!! Cover crops are really starting to grow since we had an amazingly warm week of sun the last couple days... Anyway pictures and lots of work are about to start getting done...

I totally agree with you @GrowGod , its not very exciting and if I had another strain that I absolutely loved and could produce as much with the consistency of blue dream I would totally switch. But I don't and growing 10 different strains and trying to keep everything separate at the end when the rains come and everything is super chaotic is not worth it for me anymore... Im going to perfect one strain and do about 15 percent of the gardens for head stash and other test strains for next year...

I hope it goes good :) anything can happen and always be prepared for the unexpected when your farming (especially in this industry)

I still agree, one of the best outdoor threads on the site. MendoGiantz killed it last year. Looking forward to seeing what he can do this year. Wish you luck Mendo.

On average last year I would say my blue dreams produced between 2 and 7 pounds. Most of the nice ones in the 200 gallon pots with full sun and plenty of space were on the upside of 5 to 7 and some of the smaller ones were between three and 4. The seed starts all averaged around 5 to 7 #. Just not the same consistency and since I don't have the seeds myself I'm never exactly sure what my friends are actually giving me. ( I'm always impressed though. ). The blue dream I had was very powder mold resistant. I also really liked that it produced dense buds that were spread out. I love the seed starts buds as big as your leg but those are the first to mold when the rains come.

@Bulldog11 I want to send in the sample but I'm confused if I should wait until after I blend in all the cover crops and wait for it to compost or should I just take samples from around the edges of the pile where there's no cover crops growing. Also should I start rototilling in all my cover crops pretty soon ??

When growing cover crops in the soil your going to till, your nutrient profile once tilled, and then broken down, will be very similar to your soils nutrient profile.

So, in other words, you can take a sample now of your soil, wait for recommendations, then till when you re-amend. I have been working with a consultant that will break down Logan Labs tests and give an excellent recommendation based on cannabis and any soil volume you need. I personally asked for my recommendations for a yard at a time, so I don't have to deal with all the lbs/per acre crap. He really breaks down the complicated science/math stuff for us stoners, lol. If your interested, I can shoot him an e-mail to see if I can give you his name. He charges roughly the same as Michael Astrea or Logan Labs.

Feel free to ask me anything else also, not passing you off or anything like that. Just thought I would pass on a service I have found valuable.

@Bulldog11 that sounds good. So you get Logan labs to do the test for you then he reads the test and discusses what he recommends adding and how much of it? Then I can add all the additives before I rototill in my cover crops? Did I get that correct ?? Sounds good to me it's always nice to talk to people who know the business.
@usstoner the strain game up here in Northern California is ridiculous. People are picky and act like some strains are terrible and others are the best. IMO the grower has a lot more to do with the quality of the herb and the climate that it is grown then the genetics. Some people have hundreds of strains and really enjoy the variety. (I have so many friends with so much variety available to me I rather just grow what works for me) Not to say genetics aren't a big part but I have grown lots of seed varieties and they always come out good. Where my friend who's not a good grower and doesn't cure and process everything right always grows crap weed. Even with the same genetics. But yes blue dream is a very over popular strain that is very mold and pest resistant. It Produces a lot and is super easy to get nice clones from all the clubs. Basically because of all these great traits it's flooded the market and it's not as desirable as og kush and sour diesel. But I have come to realize that if you grow a good product and the price is right my co op I work for always comes back to me

Yes, logan labs does the test. Can also amend the soil based on your amendments you use. Can give exact recommendations based on the weight and volume of your soil.
Yes, add all the additives at same time as cover crop or till them in with the cover crop. All up to you and your schedule. Yes you got it correct. Ask if you have any questions???
Happy to help you work out the details.

Thx guys- @Bulldog11 and @leadsled -- I just went and took my soil sample. Got it zip locked up with all the forms filled out and sent it out with a thursday arrival date projected- Ill post the results on here in a couple days when I get it back.. My cover crops look like are really starting to grow and I am a little nervous that they might not break down all the way before its time to plant... I was thinking as soon as the results come in I'm going to rototill it all up really good and get the process going- It takes about 2 months to break down is that correct????

The cover crops- it looks like regular grass is mixed in there but I'm assuming that it's a grass that was in the cover crop mix i bought. Cause there shouldn't be any regular grass that was able to get into the dirt.

Hey mendo, wandered over here following bulldog1, gotta go read the first 27 pages, but if page 28 is a sign of it, this is the thread to follow to soak up some more valuable knowledge.

Gonna go see what I missed last year, and am strapped in to see what comes this year!
