I think hollow stems are just based on the strain. A friend of mine had a party once right after a harvest and used the hollow stems for drinking straws.:)
Great looking holiday harvest you have there. I cut a plant last Sunday and jarred her up this morning and will take another one tomorrow morning. Merry Christmas to you and your family
rmoltis!:)
hollow stems are ok, dont worry too much, as branches age, or our plants are stressed, the ability to carry nutrients reduces and the stems thicken usually. Hollow stems can be seen as a sign of a good plant, healthy with limited stress. usually branches with problems go soft, even slimy to touch, so long as your plant have turgor, you are fine. Problems can arise as buds get heavy and young branches can snap, so supporting them is a good option. So long as your plant has access to adequate structural elements, and most basic nutes will deliver these and certainly most soil will have them in the locker, no one should worry about hollow stems. ;-)
There are lots of things we worry about as growers, but look honestly at your plants. Be still and observe fully. Red Stems, Hollow Stems, none of these are determined problems. If your plant is growing, putting on weight, its fine, dont worry, if the leaves are falling off, if the media is cold and damp, smells like an egg fart, or a sharp pickle, if your roots are slimy, your branches and stems soft, then worry.
Plants are like people, even when we group those of us with blue eyes together, there is still vast variation. Some plants will have a thicker stem, this is usually adaptation relating to environment. most hybrids, never having seen a truly bad days weather, dont have these same characters in form as they are not required. Revel in the differences of your plants, learn to listen to them and they will reward you, hollow red stems and yellow leaves, or not. :-)
Life in its base form is perfect, there is no need to pursue it when we are a part of that :-)
