238V/35.4Vf in a series configuration is 6.72 BXRC-35E10K0-D-73-SE COBs

using just 6, I'm only using 212V of the max of 238V ... so I think I'm ok with numbers. I would use your recommended CREE COBs except they are going to cost $12+ per COB (COB + holder, without shades) = $212, I'm not too sure it's worth the extra efficiency.

now, I could use the 1400ma Driver and drive the COBs harder. The problem is the number of COBs drop to 4 but the wattage goes up to 50 per COB. Unfortunately, it appears that the harder you drive them, the worse the efficiency (lumin per watt) gets. in this case the lm/w = 176 compared to 183 ...

anyway, I'm looking at the most cost effective COB and efficient solution and still get the desired results ... GIANT BUDS!!! };-)

Not in the tech field at all just a led geek i guess haha.im self employed ,i run a landscape co and lawn maintenance we do mostly commercial work and new home installation. I personally do mostly driving around to bid jobs or purchasing supplies, we have 2 hard working guys that run the labor side pretty much and keep the newbies busy so i dont really even have to talk to them lol.
Thats a great combo with the driver and the vero 29 gen 7
Its damn near splitting hairs on eff between those and the cxb3590.i have some vero setups also and they grow the dank :)

After talking with rapidled.com people, I am currently thinking that I want to go with the CREE 3000K 90CRI 36V COBs. I'm also thinking that I might go with the 1400ma supply and just use a linear potentiometer to to dim the individual supplies.

with this setup, I can get 9 COBs on one HLG-480H-C1400. and just make a 3x3 array, 1 foot on center.

what do you think about this combination?

Best idea yet :)
That driver is badass and having the extra power is never a bad idea.could easily flower a 4 x 4 with that rig.

But i would suggest that you buy the reflector adapter and use them.that way you can add reflectors later if you want but the other thing is they help hold down the cobs more evenly.you will use 4 screws instead of just 2 so it helps keep nice even pressure on the heatsinks

ok sixstring, I did a parts pricing comparison on a 9 x 9 COBs unit using cxb3590s 36v or vero29se 36v

9 - cxb3590s 36v with COB holder and lense holder
9 - 140mm pin heatsinks
2 - HLG-480H-C1400
COST = $625

9 - VERO29SE 36v COB
9 - 140mm pin heatsinks
2 - HLG-480H-C1400
COST = $535

I'm going to need two of them in my 4 x 8 tent
1250 vs 1070

I'm still wondering if its worth the extra $180 for the CXB cobs.
I think if I asked Greengenes, he would say go with the VEROs and if I asked Growmau5, he would say go with the CXBs

well if you were running at 35w i would def say cree but 50 w is a toss up.

I'm hoping to run them closer to the 35w just to keep the heat down and electricity bill lower.
is there a good place to buy the VEROs? RapidLED only has one choice for VERO 3500K 80CRI and I wanted 3000K 90CRI. I know digikey has them, just looking for other potential vendors.

you could ask northern grow lights,he used to sell them.have you asked rapidled to get you a different color temp? you could also contact timber and ask if they would just sell you veros.i have bought from digikey,not bad at all

six hands are like a farmers..... work = hard lots o fun moving 50lb pea gravel bags ect ... lol'. try that with 40-60 bags. off the pallet onto truck, off truck, up down lol'

well i have not tried them yet but some say they are the best cob out there on paper and in testing.but i really dont know enough about them like holder options or heatsink availability,whay type of drivers fit them ect.i suppose i will eventually buy a few and run them to see what all the fuss is about haha

I think the fuss is getting the same type of results to the cxb3590s for half the cost. they are a 22mm surface compared to the 30mm surface of the other cobs, I don't know if that makes a difference. They also have a higher Vf at 53.2v@1400ma which is almost 75W of power but then you can dim them down. They do have a much lower max current at 2.4 amps which has me a bit concerned about overall reliability(seems like that are worked harder).

you just listed all the reason i dont like them haha.smaller cob so you need more cobs per sq foot.driver problems due to cob holder volt max of 250v so it makes series wiring more expensive.more drivers so now not as cheap as they seemed.but the 31 factor in my choice of cobs comes down to actual grow journals.untill i see more quality grows with these other cobs i will keep buying cree and vero because i know they work and there are tons of good looking grows with them.
