When to harvest

Since we're about 2 or 3 weeks out from harvest I am going to share the article I've read on what a ripe plant really is. This is a sticky.

"Is it ready yet?: SpruceZeus's take on marijuanaripeness.
This is by no means meant to be the definitive guide to knowing when to chop your plant, only my views on the subject.

I'm personally of the opinion that 90% of the growers on this site (And probably in general) harvest too early. By letting the plants go a little longer you're ensuring that the've plumped as much as they're going to.
Despite popular opinion to the contrary(and don't fool yourself, the jury is still out on this one) Recent studies have shown ;contrary to what was previously believed, that THC itself (And its predecessor THC-A) are quite guilty of causing the confusion and drowsiness associated with burnout and other cannabinoids (our friend CBN, and a handful of others) to be the catalyst (along with THC) to being 'high' rather than 'baked'
Regardless, whether or not theres any substance to the aforementioned study, its easy to get the high you want.
If you want a soaring 'cerebral' high: Get yourself a tropical sativa that contains a high level of THC-V and grow it until it is ripe.
If you want the narcotic couchlock stone, grow a rugged indica until its ripe.
Notice a pattern of growing it until its ripe? Its a really good rule to live by.
OF course we have to remember that there is more to a good high than just THC. At last countthere are at least 66 cannabinoids, and we don't know what most of them do.

Now alot of people will tell you that you should harvest based on the colour of your trichomes. But (again, in my opinion) that is far too simplistic and there are too many variables to make that an effective strategy. I've made that point a million times before and i'm not going to re-hash it here,(maybe just a bit) but rest assured there is more to the picture than just trich colour.

A ripe marijuana plant will be filled in, will have an amber tinge to the buds. The pistils should have browned (or orange-d) off and receded into the buds. The seed bracts should be swollen and the trichomes should be sticking straight out with bulbous ends. Also, because you're coming close to the end of plant's life cycle, the leaves should have yellowed off and started to die.

one of my plants, 3 days before chop-chop.

Another very important (imho) reason to let your plants mature is Terpenoid production. Terpenes are responsible for alot of the complex (Andenjoyable) flavours that cannabis produces. Some of the most intense flavours are produced on the "downslope" of cannabis's life cycle. My personal experience with this first came when i was growing GH cheese. One of the plants i harvested at 8 weeks and it tasted pretty nice and had pretty dense buds. The other i grew until about 9 1/2 weeks and it had most amazing, sour, skunky, delicious taste with rock hard buds."

Great article. The amber tinge is what I've found to be a great indicator. Also when you think they are ready wait 5 more days... LOL waiting is the hardest part..

Installed a boiler drain and connected the blumat feed. Now I'm fully automated irrigation. As a plumber I know I absolutely have to keep my irrigators elevated off.the dirt to prevent water backfeed contamination. The pressure reducer may have one built in. Anyone speak Austrian? Lol

5.0 moisture constant.
Is that an electrical box right next to a water line? Not sure the wisdom on that.
Im curious how the blumats do keeping the whole container evenly moist? How many are in that container?

I know lol. It's how they installed the water heater. It's a dedicated double breaker circuit. I like to have a sensor to cover every 3x2 area and I use a drip irrigator to cover every square foot.

It damn sure is. Especially if you're out of meds lol. I stocked up so I would be sure to wait for the full ripening. I had to triple my grow space

"I do not particularly like the word 'work.' Human beings are the only animals who have to work, and I think that is the most ridiculous thing in the world. Other animals make their livings by living, but people work like crazy, thinking that they have to in order to stay alive. The bigger the job, the greater the challenge, the more wonderful they think it is. It would be good to give up that way of thinking and live an easy, comfortable life with plenty of free time. I think that the way animals live in the tropics, stepping outside in the morning and evening to see if there is something to eat, and taking a long nap in the afternoon, must be a wonderful life. For human beings, a life of such simplicity would be possible if one worked to produce directly his daily necessities. In such a life, work is not work as people generally think of it, but simply doing what needs to be done."

You make your own Coconut water? That shit is expensive lol.
I buy a case at the big box store for $20 and I only feed it every 10 days. 1/4 cup to a gallon of water. Vitacoco. It goes a long way. I only feed 1 gallon of solution per feed. I can't feed much more with blumat or plants will not be happy. I just soak the trunk so the water will follow along the roots then water over the root zone. Whats left gets fed to the soil.

Here's the best stuff out. It's pink from cytokine. If you don't have Kroger or a health food store it's way too expensive. Shelf life of 2 weeks. It like $8 for an 8 ounce. When I used this stuff the plants would explode. I'm talking a node and a half overnight. They do absolutely nothing to preserve it. 100% raw. I swear it gave me pink pistils. It was crazy lol

Coot's Worm Reactor
I found this gem reading lumper posts. This is simple. Fill a #65 smart pot with compost and put worms in. You now have a living compost bin/worm farm.
