12. COTTON DEFOLIATION
Keith Edmisten

Crop Science Extension Specialists—Cotton
Defoliation is the application of chemicals to encourage or force cotton leaves to drop from the
plant in order to harvest the crop in a timely manner. Defoliation is a balancing act between
killing the leaves and not affecting the leaf. For successful defoliation, the leaf must stay alive
long enough to begin the formation of an abscission zone that results in leaf drop. If the leaf
is killed too rapidly, the chemical signals are not sent from the leaf to the abscission zone. The
result is a leaf that is frozen or “stuck” to the plant, creating unnecessary trash.
Proper defoliation is a profitable part of a total cotton management system. Benefits include:
1.Elimination of the main source of stain and trash, resulting in better grades.
2.Faster and more efficient picker operation.
3.Quicker drying of dew, allowing picking to begin earlier in the day.
4.Straightening of lodged plants for more efficient picking.
5.Retardation of boll rot.
6.Potential stimulation of boll opening, which can increase earliness, yield, and profit.

It doesnt....

If defoliatian actually increased yields why is it not utilized in agriculture? Wouldn't that make sense? Why do you drive by orchards and see leaves? Does photosynthesis happen in flowers or fruit?
it increases yields indoor for sure.outdoor is differnt ball game imo,no real need cuz sun revolves around yur plant, indoor for me its a must.unless u hav a light mover(n id do it anyway).

Tamatoes is a start..If you want a PRIME example with canna find JackMayOffer on insta gram. That maybe a lil tougher if your not knowledgable in canna

OhI didnt see the orchards comparission I am looking at plants more in the C3 range wich tomatoes are close in respect.

Trying to compare pot to avacodoes is a piss poor example.

Show me where they defoliated tomatoes and it increased yields please. I'm interested. You're saying cannabis isn't like any other plant on earth?

Aaaaand to further this point further its plant size oreintated. Those tiny flowered out units of yours are naturally not going to benifit at all from it. Defoil is usefull in larger plants, not smaller.

Its the variety of tomatoe. Theres 2 types the bushier variety and the viney variwty. The viney varietys used in commercial are the ones that benifit

Here we go. Give me science. Do you have any? Or will you resort to attempting to hurt people's feelings

Well I like to defol, then smoke a bowl,
Then let the base drop, while I supercrop![/QUOTevent you hit the nail onthehead. What most do not understand is when you scrog sometimes Lol you get a couple dominate colasabout half way through stretch. If left alone they shade there neighbors. How to fix the issue you breal it, snap it, or super crop it..pick your fave word I prefernech snapping but that maybe a lil violent
