So I have some questions for the cali growers...
Is there still money in growing out there? Do you need a special license? Can you legally sell to dispensaries and is it worth it? How's the black market?
I'm asking because michigan is following in your footsteps and I want to know what to expect. We are going commercial next year and possibly recreational also. Which sucks!
I'm not sure if I want to stay here or move to a newly legalized state.

Here's my opinion:
First. There is ALWAYS a market for superior product. Yes anyone can Grow mid grade but when you have a superior product it will sell. Regardless.

Yes with a medical rec. you can legally sell to clubs. It's more about knowing somebody. You have to get "in" with them. I don't like that part but it's how it is. I have buddies who are buyers at 3 clubs and that's how I'm going about it. That's why I'm working toward expanding a little and honing my skills. All the while I make good friends with those 3 guys and the people they know. They take a sample, test it, and make an offer. Paid after it sells. It is always a good idea to test your stuff on your own and go in with test results in hand with your sample. Then when their tests Mach you build rapport.

Until that is really going my opinion I the "black market" is always superior product always has a market

To be honest I bet there is if that's what your in it for, I'm just doing it because I would spend 2-300$ every 10 days buying it from the dispensary.. the stuff they sell at the dispensary is good but super overpriced.

I think it depends on how big of an op your doing for the license type stuff.. I'm pretty sure though now that it's legal you are allowed to have a certain number of plants(like 6 per person?) not sure about selling to dispensaries.. Prolly could get a zip of some straight fire for 200 or a bit less if you know the right ppl..

The laws are changing now tho so it's a learning process. The commercial licsence will start being available beginning 2018 so people are really trying to learn right now. There will be a lot more clarity in coming months

Well I'm in it mostly because I want to smoke the best and I smoke a lot. Growing it is the only way I can afford it.
That being said it's nice being able to supply a few patients and also get rid of any overages. It was nicer a few years ago when it was 300-400 a zip.

OK I guess our laws are a little different. I thought you guys already had commercial/warehouse grows. That's what I think will ruin it here for us smaller growers.
If they would just allow dispensaries but and not commercial grows that would be awesome. But next year the warehouse growers move in.

Same here, honestly for me I think taste/smell is probably one of the most important factors.. Only bad thing is when it tastes/smells so good it makes me smoke so much more haha...

We do have those but I'm not up on what liscences they have and what they have to do. But I know 2018 it's changing for all of them so everyone is working in getting the new licsence and all that.

We don't have state legal dispensaries here yet. There are a few illegal ones.
We will get them next year also. But they can only buy from commercial growers. :(
Maybe I'll just become a commercial grower. Haha. Can you loan me a million???:)

That's insane haha... out here all the dispensaries are pretty much legal (as far as I can tell) besides maybe some of the delivery only places.. but doesn't matter legal or not they still get shut down all the time out here for no apparent reason..

Cali has some of the biggest warehouse grows in the world
the deal is that even the warehouse grows cant supply the entire state let alone the country like they are doing at the moment
not sure of the legality
on the dispens tip
you would be hard pressed to get $800.00 a# wholesale
unless you are in with the dispens
as for making money on the BM
that will never go away
there are always gonna be those who would rather get it from someone they know than a big box store laden with pesticides etc
once it goes completely legit look for farmers markets for the best boutique

as for the real money in the industry
*Realestate
*Equipment
*power Company's
*Growing Supplies
*Regulators

the farmers are gonna be soon making pennies on the dollar
same as any other agg related farm
