ok its just ive read afew posts someone swapped 6000w hps with 2850w cmh and reckoned he was getting more weight and someone else swapped 1800w hps with 1260w cmh and getting a little extra is tbis not the case then

There's about a million variables in a grow room, but I'd say you'll love the CMH after using HPS. I think we have about 9 pages of people saying this lol

No it is not. The 315 can do more per watt but has a smaller footprint. You would need 3 315's to 2 600 hps'.

In my tests it yielded the same as a 450 hps. I can get a pound out of a 3x3 area with a cmh but have gotten 24 oz from my 600 hps in a 3.5'x3.5' area. And the hps makes denser buds with a better leaf to calyx ratio. And while the bud and plants looked frostier and more colorful with cmh I have gone back to hps only and potency is higher with the higher wattage hps.

I will likely use 2 600 hps to 1 315 cmh over a 4x8 area next build. Benefits of both lamps that way.

Seems to do what my 600 "blue" metal halide does but with less watts in a slightly smaller area. But they are better compared to one another than a good Hortilux super hps.

What was said already about every grow room is different so results can be all over the place.
The only thing I can say is cmh shines where canopy is more even.they really don't have much penetration like a high watt hps.so people who grow trees might not like cmh.
You may need more bulbs and some vertical lighting if you plan on growing taller plants or hoods with more direct footprints.
I think cmh are a scroggers dream cause you can add more lights as the same wattage of a bigger hps and get more even coverage.
Heat is about the same unless you air cool.
My 2 open bulb cmh put out a little more heat than my air cooled hps.
There are a lot of variables.
If I had 12 foot ceilings I would probably go to 1200 watt DE gravitas and grow 7 foot plants straight run no scrog to get football cola's in dwc.
Every light and fixture has a place

I'm working on building a bigger sealed building that will be 12 foot ceilings with open lit gravitas.
I love cmh I just don't see how they would benefit on 7 to 8 foot plants.I'm planning on running 27 gallon waterfall totes.
If CMH can ever get its shit together and come out with dedicated 1200 watt square wave ballast and good bulbs I would stick with cmh.it would be fucking daylight indoors.
Seems like cmh is a little behind on technology

You got it. I put reflective material along the sides and that really makes a difference with lower buds.

I don't get why they havnt come out with a dedicated 630 watt cmh bulb and a dedicated square wave ballast.or even a,1200 watt cmh setup with a dedicated cmh ballast would take the industry to the next level.

i grow just over 5 foot plants ive swapped 2000w hps with 1890w cmh with cross lighting will cmh be no good for 5 foot plants ?

will cmh penetrate right to the bottom of a 5+ plant

Vanquish has a 630 now. It's 50.00 more than their 315cmh set up.

And x2 on canopy. I went from hps and staking to cmh and trellis netting. Same yields if not.more now. And saves 10hrs staking 16 plants every run. 5 mins to throw a net up.

No

I grow.tall.plants, but I net. Lowers are lollipopped drastically. See my.many flower run threads.

what plant heights would be optimal with cmh
Its not the height of the plant that matters, its where your canopy is. I'd say mine penetrate about 10 or 12 inches before I get popcorn buds that I would rather not have. My plants are about 2 feet tall but lollipop and topped many, many many times.

I have one of the Growers Choice 630de bulbs I'm going to try in a gavita next round, haven't seen the fixture you linked to before only the 315 and 630.Thats a trippy fixture for a good price.Growers choice has not been known for quality in the past which makes me a little cautious about their stuff.
