Did you guys ever bother measuring the actual power draw of a 1k hps unit? Is that 1k on the bulb or on the socket?

Man I’m mad I had to work thru all of this. Seemed fun! Hahah. I think the answer came down to it depends on your situation. Gotta have the head space for gavitas. I don’t think SE hps should be in the conversation with anything. Those 1k de cmh seem to be legit tho! I think a mix of de cmh and de hps would kill it.

I’ve never ran led or cmh so I won’t comment on what I junk is better because I don’t know. But I do know the difference in a de hps and a se hps is huge. Spectrum, penetration, and coverage. Also they don’t run on 1150 watt unless you set it too. I run mine at 100% which is 1k. You can set the gavita controller to 115% but I use it on 100%. Still need to play with the 115% more and see if it’s worth it

Got ya. So when my gavita controller bounces from 998 watts to 1003 watts at 100% it’s actually pulling more at the wall? And if I set it at 115% will it pull even more at the wall? Or stay around the same but put out. More at the lamp? Serious question

None of tou have a killawatt on hand? I'm really curious too.

I don’t. But I am curious.
All I know is my gavita controller reads the wattage used. It fluctuates between say 998 and 1003. That controller is hooked and daisy chained their the ballasts. Not the bulbs. Whatever that means

It means it should read the power draw of the whole unit, not just the bulb. If you know the efficiency of the ballast you can calculate the power on the bulb.

Since this turned into a fartnoise thread and were talking about Par and light intensitys you guys can seriously help me conclude or get to the bottom of a mystery i have been going over for a while.
Everytime i get to the last of the flowering cycle around week 6 My plants always stop feeding heavy and seem to like a small diet.I can normally get up to around 900PPM during the peak of the stretch sometimes 1100 in RDWC but after the stretch they start to build flowers and get heavy but the PPM always start to build up in the buckets indicating they have stopped eating as much.It never fails.I always have to fall back to around 500ppm and sometimes less during the last 3 weeks. All the curent culture charts and other soil feed schedules call for this to be at the peak or feeding time but for me it always seems to drop off.
You can see my chart the past couple weeks,At one point i had 1000PPM in the system res (R) and 400 in the top off (T)and the ppm still was rising indicating they were eating far less.I had to do a system change out to bring it down to acceptable levels and i noticed things went right again. It just seems they really stop eating as much in the last 3 weeks as what all other charts indicate and it makes me wonder if people are really cooking there plants in 5 and 6 week feeding schedules when i can see none of my plants ever want that much.Im leveled off at around 600 now and it will continue to drop the next 2 weeks till the last week with just dry kool bloom.Any and all input is welcome.

I go hard at the end but im not in dwc. Are u basing this entirely on what the ppms say or r the plants telling u to back off?

Both,I can tell by the ppm rising in the res but also see it in the plants.brown tips on some of the cerrations and having that over fed look.plants over all look super healthy and this is just something I have learned how to read them.

Wish i cud be more help but my experience in dwc is very limited. That def looks like the stage when they shud b gettin the hard stuff
That is what ive always said to myself.the undercurrent chart calls for around 1.2 EC at this stage which is where i am at but other charts i have seen is way higher than that.I know the charts dont mean shit but the basic point is at the 6th week the plants should be at there peak but i always find the peak to be during the stretch around week 3 to 5 than they just drop off like crazy.undercurrent is calling for 1.3 which is around 550 to 600ppm which seems about right.
