Hello all,

Wanted to ask a question pertaining to Agsil16H and GroSil. I have been using aptus fasilitor for quite some time now and thanks to this forum I have been learning a lot in regards to saving a few dollars. It is a great product however, I am trying to get the most for my money.

Started to use Agsil16H and was on social media and seen this massive greenhouse guy hashtagged a product called "GroSil". After doing some research, Grow-sil states:

"Grow-Sil is a 99.9% pure amorphous silica made from rice hulls. Silica provides numerous benefits to plants:

  • Strengthens cell walls Improves uptake of important microbes, nutrients, and water Protects plants from fungal diseases
  • Creates a matrix for nutrients at the plant root
  • Promotes greener leaves and stronger stems to improve photosynthesis and increase yields
  • Protects plants from stress
Grow-Sil has unique qualities that make it the best choice for providing needed silica to all types of plants.

  • 99.9% pure natural silica; the highest concentration on the market
  • Eco-friendly production process
  • Sourced from a renewable and sustainable source: the rice hull
  • Highly soluble
  • Very high porosity
  • No heavy metals
  • Exceptional flowability
  • A neutral pH of 7.0"

It might not be as cost effective as Agsil, but my question is would it be more bio-available compared to Agsil. Thank you

This is from Custom Hydro Nutes:

Agsil:
AgSil 16h soluble silicon 5 Day Na2CO3 NH4NO3 Soluble Si Extraction results

Grow Sil:
Grow sil soluble silicon results

8.54 plant available Si with Agsil vs 6.28 with Grow-sil. You can also see the neutral ph of 7 is really 4.2.

Basically you are paying more for less plant available Si. Now if you want to use a sustainable source, and that weighs on your decision, then go for it.

Basically Grow-sil is just ash from burnt rice hulls that have been treated with acid.

If you want a further read of plant available Si (what is used by the plants not what the bottle says):
https://customhydronutrients.com/page_2.html

Don't get upset when you see Fasilitor @ 0.85% plant available towards the bottom of the list and what you were paying for it.

Thank you for your feedback. Seems like I should continue to stick with the Agsil16H. Been overpaying with Aptus Fasilitor for quite some time now. Not saying the product didn't work, rather way overpriced. Much appreciated !

I used 2 lb of Agsil and the main thing I didn’t like about it was the ph issues even if I applied it first and brewed it in water first proper (dissolved before in Rez ) . RAW NPK silica seems to work better for me in the dry versions ( I apply only 1/16th teaspoon - 1/8th teaspoon depending on part of life cycle )

If you look at the ratio per gal , raw’s as better and cheaper ( without that issue I mentioned )

Agsil 16 is the way to go,5 lbs 60 bucks from buildasoil, this is what real farmers have been using for years. There is no secret to silica,I remember OSA when they were a sponsor here spewing their BS and selling 5 gallons for 4000 dollars or something like that, wish i was in on that scam.

It's PH is very high so it raises the PH of the reservoir. You just adjust it with your PH down and that's it. Agsil is the way to go.

The problem with NPK’s “silica” is that it is basically non existent once you mix in to water. Also it says right on the bag that it does not effect dicot plants...cannabis is a dicot. Ph significantly effects how many ppm of silica is available, being the most abundant around 11-12 ph. So if we’re between 5.8-6.8 then there is only a certain amount that is available to the plant regardless of how much of your silica you’re adding to your mix. Nutrients in the mix will also change how that is taken up through your plants. There’s been a lot of research done on silica and how much is actually bioavailable. NPK claims something like 45% but only has like 0.5% or less.

Here’s a great read on silica:

I called npk raw about their silica putting that on their label and asked them if it would still work with cannabis‘ “does not with dicot” (before buying the product ). The main rep said yes , it was just for labeling reasons ( since this for multi state acceptance ) . Kinda like their fullup can’t say it’s fulvic acid on it. There’s tons of stupid things like that on labels they are not allowed to put on so they have to make it very “ sellable “, on the label. Hints why so many times they can show you a 1 ingredient and say 99% rest and you’ll never know the rest and it’s prolly the most important part of the product for exp agriculture

* your ways/replies just make you look know-it-all I don’t want to debate with you. Keep it to your self Inless it’s more positive

Dude, I’m literally sharing with you the science of how silica is taken up through plants. I’m not saying I know everything, but I do know you are wasting money on that weak ass NPK “silica.
You could take the time to read the links and maybe you’d see that I’m actually backing up what I say with solid science.
Not my fault you’re upset over something so petty. No hate here

I will bet if it says “does not work with dicot” then it does not.
Labels dont have all the listed ingredients because if they did they would be pulled form the shelves.
There are many examples of this in the hydro industry today.
The FDA regulates what goes on a lable and it will not lie, it may however leave out important facts and ingredients.
