Welcome to my new perpetual posting for growing on the Farm (there will be lots of small subject specific posts as well).

So.... i have completed three grows; two successful, the other was a total shit show of a loss. I have used each grow to make improvements to my tools, equipment, cabinets & technique. During the different grows i used "gifted" seeds and didn't know much about what i was growing or wanted to grow for that matter. This has allowed me to try at least 4 different strains.

I have decided i will focus on growing the Auto Train Wreck from my last grow. Once i have mastered that I will move on to a Photo-period grow with something like bubba kush.

You have to walk before you can run! I have passed through the crawling stage; now i'm feelin' it, but I still wobble when i walk (still so much to learn); so train wreck auto it is.....

(vendor advertising blurb, not mine, i will be commenting on their accuracy)
.........................

Train Wreck Autoflower:
With 60% sativa, 30% indica, 10% ruderalis and a descendent from the great Original Cali Train Wreck, our auto-flowering Train Wreck is a hardcore, stony, and outright mind-blowing high. This hybrid auto-flowering strain has mind-altering effects.

Flower Time: 8 WEEKS
Yield (may vary): 150G TO 250G
EASY to germ & grow; esp. for beginners like me.
........................

I have decided not to mention the source of the seeds until the end of this first grow with this batch of seeds. That is because i have read reviews about the vendor both good and bad from lots of forums, boards and word-of-mouth; and i want to try and cut down on the upfront bias. In a pinch i made a small investment for my last grow and it seems to have paid huge dividends. I simply want do to do a second grow and see if my results are at least the same; if not better. Although it will be pretty easy to figure out who the vendor is; let's at least make sure we identify our bias (positive or negative) and keep the comments professional & respectful. It is an opinion. You don't have to use the information if you feel it does not apply to you. However; it may prove very useful to someone looking for an answer.

Stay Tuned!! 🍻

OK. Let the journey begin...!

Dropped 3 bean of "Train Wreck Autoflower" as promised.

By the time they pop, i should have one of the cabinets cleaned up and the T5 bulbs replaced. Lost 2 during last grow. I also have to RMA my 400w light that lost a bank of LED's during this last grow.

Three beans dropped; three popped and placed in RW.

Three for three. That is already a better start than the last grow. HOWEVER; this time i will stop and wait and see what i get a little bit longer. Last grow i germ'd way too many. The goal is two in 6" net pots in the flower cabinet. If i get lucky and have all three make it, i will use the grow cabinet and a 6" net pot to grow it out.

Im in. As you know, I grew well for about 6 years then it all went to shit about 2 years ago. I finally figured out the cause (simple really) and am humming along once again. When I finish this thread, Ill start a new one

After they germinated and were put into rock wool did you turn on any lights or have they been left in darkness?

I left them in the dark and covered until the first one showed. Then i turned on just one T5 so the sprout would continue to seek the light. When the second popped i slid the top to one side about an inch. I will remove it completely when the third shows. No water in the RW after removal from RO water 24 hour presoak and insertion of the beans.

Latest mods to both grow cabinets based on lessons-learned from the last grow. Over-crowding was a major bitch.
I was able to retain the use of the 3" holes for veg before transplanting to the 6". This is the "tweek" for this grow. Lets see how it goes.

Today Update:

2 beans are up and it looks like the third is trying hard.
Reset of flower cabinet has been completed. Over the next two or three weeks i will be using RO top-off to bring down the ppm's.

Updates;

Things are looking good. I'll take what i can get.

I have also dropped the ppms to 250-260 for now. I will do another 50% water change at the end of next week which should bring the ppm count to around 150-160 ppp. Then i will add a full measure of nutes (recommended dosage for one gallon)(rez is 10 gallons); based on previous measurements that "should" raise my ppm's to around 270 or so. I want to refresh the +Life for this run but I need to perform the 1 gallon to recommended dosage test for it, and record the number. I don't want my total ppm to be above 300; i will shoot for 250 (meaning i will have to start lower than 150).

I will also refresh the Hydroguard, however it does not add to the ppm's. I finally found the compound list for +Life "...a concentrated blend of bacteria and fungi ..." I'll post the results/photos of the test so that others don't have to.

I have included photos of the list for those geeky enough to be able to understand it. Several of the OG's will i am sure... 😲

🍻 HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!

1 gallon of RO water tested at 5 ppm.
Added one teaspoon - recommended dosage is 1 teaspoon per 10 gallons. Because i did not want to have to measure the weight and divide by ten, i decided to add the whole teaspoon to a single gallon and divide the result by 10.

My ppm's after adding the teaspoon of +Life is 551 ppm. Divided by 10 that is an increase of 55.1 ppm. Since my stock is 128 ounces, that means i would need 12.8 ounces of "sauce" to raise my ppm by 55 ppm's. Dumping the entire gallon into the 10 gallon rez would raise my ppm by only 55.1 ppm. If i only use 12.8 oz of sauce per top-off hen my ppm "should" only rise about 5-6 ppm.

I like to mix my +Life a few days early and leave the soup at room temp for a couple of days to give the little buggers a head start.

@Aqua Man is that a valid plan of action or am i just making a mess for 5-6 days? I don't have any idea what the environmental conditions are for keeping this stuff alive and replicating before i dump in the rez. Once introduced into the rez i will let it run another week or two at 63-65 degrees and growth of the culture should slow down a bit.
🍻

Here is the total ppm count for each of my additives used during the grow. I can now do water changes and additive additions and have a fairly accurate way to maintain my target ppm's during the grow.
-------
Hydroguard - 0 ppm/gal
Silica Blast - 17 ppm /gal
CalMag - 262 ppm/gal
CNS-17 Bloom or Grow - 881 ppm/gal
+Life - 12.8oz/55.1 ppm/gal

I would add right to the system. The more food available the faster the populations will grow. Personally I feel like bacteria will compete and in the end a Victor will prevail, not this is basically for the different food sources. Some are nitrogen fixing some phosphorous etc etc etc. So I would say best added to the res to ensure adequate food sources.

Thank You!

Let the games begin!

drained a gallon of rez, and added the entire gallon of "soup". Grow cabinet reset is now complete and ready for the two new girls within the next 7-10 days.

🍻 😎

Oh, i also added the last gallon of RO water to the rez to make it a full 10 gallons. Ready for launch...
also added a photo showing the nutes used. (more for reference than anything else).
