Dose anyone grow fruit n veg in your back yards .

Hi I’ve been a horticulturalist by trade for many years I started growing veg in back yard with Grandmother and Father who at the time was head hort at Brisbane botanical gardens later became superintendent for Brisbane and some of the smaller gardens run by botanical gardens as teaching aids , so my question is what’s growing in you veg patches and on your fruit trees , at the moment here in tassie winter is fast approaching , we had a great spring summer autumn crops salad greens , tomes, corn , ect ect , I’m my yard I have apples , pears , peach, apricot,and this summer started on the citrus trees ,oranges , lemons ,limes ,about to plant out mandarins, tangelo and blood orange . We have chooks to free range in the little orchard,ducks are next just finished up the start of there coupe , we are totally organic in this system I’ve been a certified organic farmer for many years and will always grow our food in this way , we have the same types of pest to deal with but I always tell my kids at least out pest bugs are eating organic so they must be tasty to the good bugs that we attract to the I call it my Farden farm garden , I come off a very large property of 9000 acres my wife says you can take the boy from the farm but can’t take the farm out of the boy . I’ll get outside in a bit to take some pics maybe some of you will do the same , in this trying times I think food and water security is paramount.....

Here’s a few pics of one half of yard the most productive side some beds laying fallow ready for the winter greens about to go in this weekend grow our own seedlings or straight drill to ground as pic of carrots ,peas , snow peas ,spinach, still some late toms hanging on which is great small amount of kale left over from spring planting it’s been so warm this autumn it’s crazy ,love to see some of your food bowl .

I, too, grow a bunch of other things. Plan on starting a thread to document that backyard activities this year as well.

Currently have six varieties of tomatoes (seedlings), three varieties of potatoes, ten varieties of lettuce, brussel sprouts, broccoli, spinach, carrots, two types of beans (one each pole and bush), artichoke, a literal spice cabinet variety of spices, probably 20 different types of flowers with more in seeded stage, passionflower (think i botched this one, don't think it's the fruit bearing variety), three types of lemons, cucumbers, and two types of squash going. Hoping for a really productive year!

When I get the thread up, I'd love to swap ideas and tips! Always fun talking to other backyard growers.

Hey DW that’s one tree I haven’t put I as yet they grow well down here in Tasmania I’ll put that on my list for this year normally get 3 to 5 different fruit trees in , got room on my small block fo 20 to 30 more trees , that’s why I got those two tanks to catch rain water we have to pay for the water in the burbs so I want to cut my cost .

Terrible springs in coastal New England for quite a few years in a row, cold and wet, first ripe fruits were a month later than usual last year, hoping for better this year?!

Well it been a fortnight science I posted this thread and a bit has happened in my garden , both the pullets have grown nicely and have now taking place in the hen house I'll keep them in there till they start to lay by that the they will be to big to fly far and I can let them onto the small fruit orchid in working on

I've managed to get my water tanks plumbed in and had lots of rain in last 2 weeks one tank filled one with 300 lts .Free water getting my crops off grid ...

Previous crops of carrots , peas , snow peas , spinach ,radish ,beans are all doing well this week I planted out winter greens , cauliflower, broccoli, cabbages ,borardbean straight drill to ground ,

I love every type of gardening and visiting people s gardens,exchange seeds and info!And drink beer under the shadow after digging hahah:)Yes,i also prefer bio style and to use what i have in my barn or backyard.I have ton of alfalafa stored:)These from previous years because this year i couldnt help granny and i guess she did it all alone:( but im going to visit her these days.We have few small gardens and i have my own (really small haha)city garden:)At least i can take pics from it:)

This is my first planting season in my new house. We bought it last June so things are still a work in progress. So far, 100 onion sets, a rhubarb, and 50 strawberry plants have been planted. I have 2 varieties of tomatoes, cucumbers, bell peppers, jalapeno peppers, green beans, broccoli, pumpkins, and musk melons started from seeds. I have 2 blueberry plants, 25 more strawberry plants, and 5 black berry plants on the way.

Where I'm at in Michigan, we're still dealing with frost although the weather reports seem to suggest we'll see the last of it this week. My project yesterday was putting up my new greenhouse frame. It went pretty well but I'm far from finished. I still have to level and square it before putting the rest of it together.

I've been repurposing a lot of things retired from my indoor grow room into the outdoors for food production.
I'm reusing old soils, containers, an ebb & flow table, and even a LED grow light.
Last year was a mere test to see if my plan would work and it did so this year I've gone all in on the project even moving in some old pavers and decomposed granite and making kind of a pad for gardening.
Next project is to get an autowaterer going using old parts from a drip feed system and a 15 gallon water tank.
My soil is compacted clay and my climate is often hot and drought stricken so raised beds and container gardens are usually the choice for gardeners in my zone.
The tomatoes are growing like a wildfire and yesterday I saw the first baby mater of the year!
I'm also growing peppers, green and yellow summer squash, cukes, rosemary, and cantaloupe
