Ok so I have been growing for awhile now. Probably 6months to a year. However I totally went overboard and was trying to grow in hydro, soil and coco coir all at the same time. I was trying to experiment to find which method I preferred. I started off with bag seeds. My plants that made it turned to be male or the spider mite infestation got them and I had some mold issues as I didn't account for the increased humidity the hydro tank would create in my flowering tent.
SO LETS TRY THIS AGAIN...
I was given a bubba Kush plant which in now fully grown and could go into the flower tent at any time however I'm considering keeping it as a mother since it's the only plant I now the strain of and is guaranteed to be female. It's on soil. I took clones already and now have 10 clones rooted ready to go into 1 gallon fabric pails. I also had saved 5 of the bagged seeds and have 2 that have made it to be about 5 weeks old at this point.
I'm being totally honest here I totally overwhelmed myself. Between growing medium, feeding, training etc it's a lot to take in. I need to keep things simple and on the cheaper end of things (for now). I was using general hydroponics flora series but I'm thinking about getting humboldt secrets as it's only a 2 part nutrient which seems much easier. I'm also a mom so I can't spend hours everyday with my plants. I have a ton of coco coir still and really like using it over soil but was thinking of just going with foxfarms soil and the humbolts secret nutrients and sticking to that for this round of plants. Unless someone can recommend something. Like coco/perlite and nutrients would that be enough? Plz any and all imput is greatly appreciated.

If you want a mother plant then keep the Bubba Kush under 18/6 light cycle. You can grow all your clones and stash seed with her until you want to flip to flower. Coco is like hydro, same rules. I use MegaCrop for nutrients. They have a single part or the new series the two part. Can be used for soil, coco or hydro.

If you're busy and can't always tend to your plants, soil is the way to go. It's very forgiving and you're less likely to suffer a disaster if you don't tend your plants each day. I have to leave the house for 12 days at a time, so organic soil (or mostly organic soil) is the way I go.

Yields are considerably higher with other methods, but if you're only supplying yourself and a few others, you'll have plenty. (However, Bubba itself isn't a huge yielding plant.)

For most nute regimes, you'll want a veg nute, a flower nute and Cal/Mag, but I haven't used the products you're talking about.

BTW, if you live in the US, a really easy and relatively cheap source of nutes, look into Urban Farms fertilizers. I would have Cal/Mag on hand, no matter what, but both Ca and Mg are already in it.

A friend swears by the tomato food, but I kind of like the veg fertilizer and "garden of eden."

I am in the us so I will definitely check that out. It's not that I can't tend to them daily it's just I don't want to spend more then maybe an hour max and I'm not set up with any kind of irrigation system. I'm hand watering which I don't like to do from the top but bottom watering in fabric pots gets messy so I water very slowly so that alone takes me a bit. Plus I'm experimenting with training.
As for bubba not being a high yield that just happened to be what I could get my hands on. I'm gonna reach out to a couple other friends I know have plants and ask for clones but where I'm at it's not easy to get seeds or plants. My other plants are of unknown genetics from a 1/2 oz that had 27 seeds in it so not a great sign as far as genetics go. So the bubba is currently the star of the grow lol

Oh And cal mag on deck. đź‘Ť

I have soil on drip and feed dry amendments and worm castings. I only really need to go in the room every 3 weeks to topdress and/or fill the res. My drip setup cost about 70 dollars and took about 20-30 min to step up. I still go in most days and check on them.

Here are the parts

Just ordered supplies to setup some basic drip on the pots to make watering a little more easy and efficient, I think I will appreciate this ease a lot especially once everything is all scrogged, or if I need to get out of town for a few days.

What I went with:

VIVOSUN 800GPH Submersible Pump(3000L/H, 24W), Ultra Quiet Water Pump with 10ft High Lift, Fountain Pump with 5ft Power Cord, 3 Nozzles for Fish Tank, Pond, Aquarium, Statuary, Hydroponics
Raindrip 016010T 1/4-Inch by 100-Feet Black Tubing
Orbit DripMaster 67431 1/4-Inch Barb Assortment, 30-Pack
Rain Bird ET256-50S Drip Irrigation Pressure Compensating 1/4" Tubing, 6" Emitter Spacing, Brown
Raindrip 13800UB Hydro-Port 8 Port Watering Manifold

I already have extra 1/2" distribution tubing, timer and res. I will have a spiral of the 1/4" drip line in each pot.

At some point you might want to look into Blumats. The work very well.

The site will be in English (most likely) if you access it from the US. Click "EN" if not.

How frequently do you have it programmed to run and what size are your pots?

They are in 5 gals, it runs 3 times a week currently. Once the plants are full size and flowering hard it will probably be every day. When they were first transplanted I hand watered based on the size of the plants, like first watering waited 7 days then 5, 4, 3 then turned on the drip. This is for soil, for coco I would read Aqua Mans
thread about watering coco.

this too me looks like the same concept as plant nanny's or hydrospikes. I was gonna buy some of these for my other plants but my concern with the these in the case of my weed plants was weather or not the nutrients would get through the terra cotta spike. I was worried it might act kinda like a filter. If that makes sense. Your plants don't have any problems with nutrient deficiency do they? Being in coco coir if the nutrients can't get through the terra cotta the plants will die.

Simplifying it is the key, regular soil and enough light will do it IMO it's usually always something you need to do less of like watering, nutes, training ect. If your plants aren't getting big at a quick rate it doesn't really matter if ur using soil or coco for example. I wouldn't touch them till they are 24" tall.

Other than the mites and males lol what problesm have you had or is this one going good so far and you just want some advice? The frequency of watering if wayyyy more likely to kill ur crop than a difference in nutes.

If you already have the coco maybe you could just use that, a lot of pple here use that, i would use liquid ferts but dont water it until it starts to droop, it will surprise you how much work u dont have to do "plant will grow itself" kinda thing.

Is this one going well so far? Pics would be great.

After the basics are second nature then maybe fire up the hydro set. The plant can go a long time without nutes and water but it can slow down quickly with too much of either.

Best of luck! đź‘Ť

Edit: You should be able to set it up so you only need to in there every 3 days or so...

They may LOOK like hydrospikes, but they are not.

The ceramic cone does not distribute the water. It acts as a sensor for when the soil is dry enough to turn on the water. You won't have a problem with roots on the ceramic sensors.

The ceramic cones are filled with water. As the soil dries, water is drawn out of the ceramic sensor, which opens a valve, distributing water to the soil until some water re-enters the ceramic sensor and closes the valve. It's brilliant, needing no power source.

You can end up with roots massing near the tube or dripper that distributes water, but it could never clog it or stop it.
