I have to add that the last year with the first hidden and then not so hidden root aphids the yield was drastically affected. Average was closer to 2.5 oz all year. The last plants got up to 3 and 4 oz after all the stress from early bug damage then drenches of botanigard. Also i never really dialed in the dyna grow stuff and pro mix as well as i would like to with all the issues. I only switched to pro mix to eliminate springtails which loved ocean forest and made it very hard to see the root aphids with other white jumping critters.

So speaking of ocean forest. Turns out i have gone too long with my bale of pro mix now over a year old from packing date. Had noticed mag deficiency last few plants and panicked it was the root aphids back but its compromised soil. The bacteria eat the lime over time. And my water is low in mag and i tend to underfeed. Ph been going down a bit too even after raising from too much protekt. Always confusing this balancing act in container gardening.

so Mrs. MMG passes the new grow and pipe store on her way home and checked it out. She brought home the fluffiest newest bag of ocean forest i have seen. I had enough large chunky perlite to mix in 25% and transplanted a couple seedlings in the pro mix to 1 gallons of ocean forest. And i started a couple more seeds too. They are taprooted and planted in cups.

as usual the ocean forest (fresh dry bag) tested 6.4 ph or so (i use drops so close enough) and 1.3 ec on the truncheon. Once wet it will go up but i have never seen it hurt any seedlings past a leaf twist for a minute.

so no more mixing feed for all the veg plants too. :-) my unadjusted well water is all i need til a few weeks into 12/12.

Now do i need pure blend pro grow or keep using dyna grow?

at my volume i dont worry too much about saving a few dollars over convenience and quality. If you were on my side of the yard i would gladly send a sample pack and a pineapple special muffin. She put real pineapple pieces in there. :-)
Mmmm I love pineapple.... yes even on my pizza... flame away lol. I never used either but listened to an interview with the dyna grow guy and not gonna lie he really sold me on that product.

Oh man, you should see what my buddy produces with dyna gro, its just incredible. I would have zero doubts about using that nutrient line. Most nutrients work well honestly, but dyna gro is a good one. And Promix is a fickle bitch honestly, Im really not surprised to see anyone struggle to work with it. People say its beginner media but its really not. It can be a pain to grow in sometimes if its old or stored outside or rips in bags or hotspots of lime or nutrients in it. good part of the reason i stopped using it was how inconsistent the crops came out, often with no idea why. Good to see you go back to the media you know and like. After 1 round back in proterra im bailing on it again too lol.

But literally across about 7 different nutrient lines that ive tried in the last dozen grows, they all do the same damn thing if youre just using the base nutes. Id say for ease of use and complete lineup of elements you cant go wrong with either pbp or foliage pro.

I have been mixing foliage pro and bloom or one or the other as needed on most recent flowers. Working well. Foliage pro is 3-1-2 ratio so a little more nitrogen than i prefer by mid flower.

another thing i like about pure blend pro grow @Dirtbag. More potassium than nitrogen.

I think growing weed is easy to pick up compared to other hobbies but there is a ton of nuance before you hit diminishing returns.

As plants go it's pretty nutrient sensitive but otherwise tough as hell in my experience.

I find heirloom tomatoes to be a bigger pain in the ass than reefer, but that's probably because it's so easy to mess up the "bag appeal" of tomatoes.
