there are plenty of people running them 6in from the tops sometimes even closer in flower...sunlight outside is 2000+ ppfd....gavita at 6in is about 1400-1500 ppfd...when the lights are closer you get better penetration...especially with c02 id say your at the perfect level.

Very doubtful..........other lights maybe, these I'd say no way. My plants show a negative reaction if I get below 20 inches. These lights have great penetration, but that comes with the red diodes. Please link me anyone who has these lights placed at 6 inches, as I'm doubting it right now. I'm in my 3rd grow with them, hitting a very high 2.3 GPW (100+ oz in a 4 X 8 area) and still looking for anyone who is getting better yield with these lights. I've read many grow diaries with them, and not one person is running anywhere near 6 inches.

Gavita recommends certain heights for a reason, as they've done 100's if not 1000's of hours of grows testing them out.

lmfao search #gavitaled #1700e on instagram....ive talked to plenty of ppl on this topic...yeah hes getting mad issues right now at 12 inches huh.

in veg yes i agree to low will cause problems....even in the first couple weeks in flower it can mess with them but after two weeks they should be fine with proper nute inputs and environment...if things were to go wrong they would go wrong quick...

You won’t be able to show me one person anywhere on the planet that has a healthy Gavita grow at 6 inches, which is what you were claiming. Now you moved the bar to 12 inches, and although you may find some sativa’s that can handle it with CO2 and great ventilation, most strains will also do poorly. I’m not here to argue with you, I prefer to let my grow diaries speak for me. I’m trying to help the guy out and have given him sound info up to this point.

None of them looked like 6 inches to me.......I’ve found pic’s can be deceiving with these. Do you own the lights or just a casual OBSERVER? Hey, enough already ok. Both my previous Gavita threads just hit 40k views today, I’m celebrating.

well your blind....ive messaged ppl and have asked they say on average 12-6inch is fine with c02, proper environment and nute regimen ...thats why i said ppl have ran them as close as 6in.....ive been growing for 12 years now, done plenty of large scale grow (10-20light setups)...second cycle with leds. one with leds super close, and one farther away...i have two gavita 1700s otw....but this isnt about me lmfao im flattered tho...its about if these plants will do ok having the gavitas at 12inchs.....i guess well see considering he cant move the light without major changes.

So at the proper distance from the plant, and the lights being 1 foot from each other, is there a certain direction the lights need to be going? Does it matter if the lights are going left to right or should it be going down the row

I do not believe the direction of the lights matters right to left or front to back. This thread turned into a joke with someone that does not even have any experience with this light instruction people on how to use the light. Gavita requires about 20" from top of canoe to bottom of light. I have been running these lights for several years, first the 1650 E and now the 1700 E. Same basic light but more red on the 1700 E. Plant stretch between the two is different with more stretch occurring with the 1700 E. I was told by a sale rep from Hawthorne Gavita add addition red with the 1700 E and they also removed the lenses cover on the 1700 E. The plants will be cranky if you run the light under about 18" some strains maybe 16" but as you get the light closer to the plants you will see the leaf issues @sshz spoke about earlier and you will have issues with fox tailing. The solution for foxtailing is not really a good option. Dimming the light in late flower will lower overall bud development and you will loose weight. Best to play it safe and flower at a smaller height.

It just sucks when people make claims and have no real experience.

Yes the sun directly overhead is about 2000 PPFD. How long is the sun directly overhead?

again the question was will the plants be ok at 12in in flower with gavitas....just because one person has problems doesnt mean everyone will...why wouldnt you want more information then just one person? so basicallly what your telling this dude is that hes pretty much fucked and there isnt anything he can do because dimming would be a negative out come too (yet hes at 12 in and showing no problems lol)...and again yes 18in would be a good broad recommendation...most ppl dont have everything on point with nutes, c02, and environment 18 would be a safer bet....but alot of the bigger growers in cali are pushing it...like i said go message other ppl and find out for yourself....ppl that have more then just 3 rounds and 2 lights....
