I may be a million miles off or a decade or two away but 1000 watt HPS is way too much for seedlings .
Way too much .
Maybe I missed something .
I use dimmable LEDs myself .
I know 1000w HPS is more than they need but I only have 4 × spider farmers sf4000s with dim function😔

Thanks for your input

Wow that’s a big grow space. Is this your first run?

yes they need more light. But steamroller is right hid is not ideal at this stage. But it will work.

dr Bruce bugbee has some testing on seedlings and they can take way more light than you would think as long as all the other grow conditions are spot on. Spectrum is important tho and your current light is not ideal for this early. I’ll be watching to see how it goes sending good vibes.
I ve been growing in tents with air cooled reflectors and LEDs for a while.

Its my first time with wing reflectors. I needed a set of 40 reflectors 40 bulbs and 40 ballasts and I was on a tight budget. Hopefully on my next run I m switching to dimmable digital ballasts and air cooled reflectors.

Currently I have 16 × 1000 HPS and 4 × Spider Farmer SF4000 running in that room.

My LEDs are dimmed and height is set according to manufacturers reccomendation.

However, seedlings under both the LEDs and HPSs look very similar in terms of height, stem thickness and leaf color.

That gives me the hope that I may get away with HPSs this time with my seedlings.

Thank you for sharing your knowledge and your wishes🙏

All the same genetics?
Yes all same genetics, sprouted and planted at the same time.

There is no difference at all.

However since my screen was broken I tried with a friends phone.

Under the HPS set at 130 cm I had the reading of 9600 LUX which is a lot for seedlings I guess.

On the other hand, under the LEDs I had the reading of 3200 LUX which is insufficent I guess.

Still, I have the same characteristics in each and every of 350 plants.

I’m not familiar with lux numbers. I use a ppfd meter.

looking forward to see them on another day or 2

I'll check my lux when plants wake up in a few and see what those numbers are.

Hey I'm on my first grow too. Its good to learn and (grow) together.💡
Exactly bro👍 we will continously learn and share our experince this what makes growing even more fun!

Good luck with your operation hope you get rewarded for your efforts🙏

I have my lights on for 24 hours also.

I used an app called photone but wasnt that accurate so I ditched it but I will try the one you reccommended.

Thanks for sharing your experience👍
Photone is going to be as accurate as phone apps get. Migro reviewed it and it did well. I'm sure each phone probably introduces some variance.

It was actually my bad with all the apps.

My screen where the sensor is broken therefore the sensor is totally open and there is no pre filter, this is why I had ridicilous levels🤦‍♂️

Thanks man👍

Here's my lux at about 19 inches away

Actually more like here. Not sure why the first one showed so high.

Hi everyone,

Do you think my seedlings are stretching?

All I have is 1000w HPS at this point. Its 3rd day of my plants and I placed HPSs 130 cm above the plants to avoid too much light and heat exposure on them.

I know seedlings like a lux around 6000 but I dont have a meter therefore I cant be sure.

Any input will be highly appreciated!
yeah a little bit. but they should be fine. play with the light a little bit and see if that does anything. if it doesn't, just plant them deep enough to burry the stringy stems, and adjust the plants so they're at a good height.
