Cold night/lights off temp can cause stretch. Probably the biggest cause imo

Hi everyone,

Do you think my seedlings are stretching?

All I have is 1000w HPS at this point. Its 3rd day of my plants and I placed HPSs 130 cm above the plants to avoid too much light and heat exposure on them.

I know seedlings like a lux around 6000 but I dont have a meter therefore I cant be sure.

Any input will be highly appreciated!
HPS is the worst light you can use for seedlings.

with all the focus on light measurement, take this from someone who's been growing, off and on, since '79: Spend a few bucks (maybe $40) and purchase a itanlpsnarte bllwiplant starter tray, done and light. The bulb is fluorescent and stays cool.

From when the seed pops thru the soil, put it on something the keeps the seedling 3-5" from the light. As it grows, you'll need to switch whatever you're using to maintain the plant top at that distance. After you get the third leaf node, top it and continue to let it grow. Next step is tp'ing it to a cozy-cup sized container and transferring to a grow tent or outside. I've done hundreds over the years without many 'lgginess' issues...

I have a fairly large grow space too. I also started with 1000 mh/ hps but found it is not ideal as there were serious hot spots and a never lighting. I went with two 400 watt, one 600 watt and 4 led quantum boards in-between them. The combo works fantastic on density, frost production. Light is evenly dispersed giving even results across whole canopy.

The heat in my bedroom is turned up to 85 (it’s brutal) for this round of germination, can’t wait to till they’re big enough to go outside, cause I’m gonna lose 15 pounds sweating this much hahah
Yikes. Can you get it down to around 80ish? I tried to keep it lower 80s upper 70s

For germinating tho I'd think that was probably prefect haha. But not for you.

Hahah yeah I brought it down to 80. They’re in my bathroom closet under a vent and on a heated floor, so I think they’re plenty warm. Threw a mini humidifier in there too. Literally just noticed there’s a thermostat right next to them and it’s reading at 88, so I think I’m good.

Also sorry to the OP for starting a completely unrelated convo on your thread 😅
