Hi everyone,

Do you think my seedlings are stretching?

All I have is 1000w HPS at this point. Its 3rd day of my plants and I placed HPSs 130 cm above the plants to avoid too much light and heat exposure on them.

I know seedlings like a lux around 6000 but I dont have a meter therefore I cant be sure.

Any input will be highly appreciated!

If you have a smartphone there are light meter apps. Depending on your phone I think is how well they work. The app I use is called ppfd meter. Seems pretty accurate.

Also it helped when I ran my light 24/0 at this stage so there wasn't any stretch at darkness especially if they get a little leggy.
I have my lights on for 24 hours also.

I used an app called photone but wasnt that accurate so I ditched it but I will try the one you reccommended.

Thanks for sharing your experience👍

From 130 cm this is the lux level I get.

Isnt this abnormal?🤔

What type of light is it? How far is it? id say no it's not stretching

Its 1000W HPS, wing reflector and connected to an old school mechanical ballast.

At this point my bulb is 130 centimeters above the plant canopy.

According to the ppfd and photone app my PAR and LUX levels are very high even from this distance🤔

This is how high my light source is.

Either I get faulty readings from APPs I am using or I have a very unusual thing going on with my bulb😤

Ahhh its my fault with the APPs readings.

My phone s screen where the sensor is broken thus the sensor is totally open. This is why I get ridicilous readings🤦‍♂️

Still I am not sure if my plants are stretching.

Any help will be highyl appreciated.

I have no experience with hps and the light they put off. But just guessing I'd drop your light down.

My tsw2000 led is 18 inches above my plants.

I may be a million miles off or a decade or two away but 1000 watt HPS is way too much for seedlings .
Way too much .
Maybe I missed something .
I use dimmable LEDs myself .

Wow that’s a big grow space. Is this your first run?

yes they need more light. But steamroller is right hid is not ideal at this stage. But it will work.

dr Bruce bugbee has some testing on seedlings and they can take way more light than you would think as long as all the other grow conditions are spot on. Spectrum is important tho and your current light is not ideal for this early. I’ll be watching to see how it goes sending good vibes.
