Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought the OP wanted to know if he could obtain a med card and continue to legally hold a concealed carry gun permit. To my knowledge, there is nowhere in the USA that allows this because of federal law.
The law in Michigan says all open containers of THC products must either be locked in a locked container or stored in the trunk in Michigan if you're driving.
OK, here is the 1st post from the OP in this thread,
Who here uses a medical card? What do you find beneficial or not beneficial about them?
The question of purchasing or carrying one came into question with this post:
Don't know the exact way to express this but from a federal level, if you want to buy a firearm or in some states carry a firearm concealed, I'd forgo getting a medical card. Personally what the government doesn't know won't hurt them as long as whatever you do is only to yourself and not harmful to others. If firearms aren't your thing than I'd go for it if there would be benefits where you live. In some states it might be none issue, while others I've heard it's an issue, it primarily depends how close the state laws follow federal laws.
Either way, I'm one to ask the physician about benefits of weed first and it they think its good for a condition I have I'd use it but not get the card. Government shouldn't make a plant illegal nor tax something that you could grow yourself.
IMHO, steamroller post is the safest option. I also think it's the safest option to just stay in bed... LOL! (and I'm retired so that's OK.)
Until made federally legal having a pot card and gun permit is a federal offence technically .
Now for the record, I'll post my personal experiance and then my opinion on the subject. DISCLAIMER: I am not an attorney, (but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night)
To the best of my knowledge, no state's medical marijuana card is recognized by the Feds. Marijuana is still illegal, but so is failing to reporting garage sale earnings to the IRS. I carried an AZ med card from 2011-16 and am currently a CO med card carrier. So now for my personal experiance.
In summer of 2012, 2nd yr w/my AZ MMC, I purchased 2 shotguns, one for myself and the other for my 15yo son, but the purchase was delayed because when they ran my name for the instant background check, it came back to hold the gun. Three days later, the sale was approved and we got our shotguns. A few months later I decided to get my boy and me matching Ruger 10/22 rifles for Christmas. I was very disapointed to have the same 3 day delay. It was then that I learned about the Voluntary Apeal File Application to receive a UPIN (Unique Personal Identification Number) from the US Department of Justice that would eliminate the 3 day wait problem. I applied for (with fingerprint card) and a few months later received my UPIN. Those are the facts of my experiance.
For those who don't know what all the fuss is about, when you purchase a firearm from a licensed gun dealer you have to fill out a back ground check form. That form has a question that reads:
Are you an unlawful user of, or addicted to, marijuana or any depressant, stimulant, narcotic drug, or any other controlled substance? Warning: The use or possession of marijuana remains unlawful under Federal law regardless of whether it has been legalized or decriminalized for medicinal or recreational purposes in the state where you reside. ATF Form 4473 (5300.9) Revised May 2020
To be honest, I don't remember that statement saying anything past the
Are you an unlawful user of, or addicted to, marijuana or any depressant, stimulant, narcotic drug, or any other controlled substance? I don't remember the WARNING statement when I purchased those guns, it may have been added in a later revision. I do remember the statement and clearly remember thinking that my AZ med card MADE me a lawful user of marijuana, so checking the NO box was my honest answer.
OPINION: I really wish someone with legal expertise would post some actual case study on the subject, but until we have that, it's just opinion. I don't honestly believe the feds try any sort of cross referencing between a "federal" ATF form 4473 and a "state's" MMJ records. Hear me, I'm not saying the feds couldn't get and cross reference that data, just that from my experiance getting my UPIN while carrying my AZ med card, it seems to indicates there is no cross referencing. Is this at minimum a cloudy and gray area? I believe it is, but so is the whole Fed policy on cannabis. I mean "Schedule 1" drug, seriously! Agree or disagree with what I did, it's all good! I have my UPIN and my med card and I'm happy!

(gave both of my guns to my boy later, so my house is firearm free)
CONCLUSION: As I see it, if you want med card, get one. I don't believe the Feds will come knocking on you door to see if there are any firearms in the home because you have a state MMJ card. At least they haven't knocked on my door for some firearms application violation.
That's my 2 cents and I'm stickin' with them. Your opinion, your experiance may be differant.
