Tired of no-pops from seed companies-vent

Some of the companies mentioned here are kinda how should we say a tad washed up... watered down.. Even the stuff I mentioned above. I wouldn't go back to any of those companies. There's better stuff out there than nirvana (I'd still go for their sensi star...) ILGM or Pyramid. For the most part these are mid grade companies we're talkin.

I breed. When I do a seed run I run just like there’s no seeds in it. Full maturation just like if it was growing in the wild. I dry like I’m drying prime sinsemilla.

I sort by hand and any seed looking anything other than perfect is thrown away. Multiple people on this forum have run my stuff. Never a complaint about a seed not popping.

I also don’t just cross whatever. Others I’ve witnessed - as soon as they can pop dark seeds out of a bud they start taking them.

Bro, friend keep calm, yes it is better to buy from breeder than bank, however you must learn to germanate correctly, first I put beans in a cup of warm water I put in a couple drops of Botanacare pro grow, put cup in dark warm place till seeds sink, then put a thin paper towel on plate, put beans on towel, add another thin towel ie generic paper towels bc they are thin and don't use dye or scent, if you were to use bounty it would soak up water, I save the water in the cup with the few drops of Botanacare, put beans on towel put another towel over beans add water from cup, put in a dark warm spot, keep an eye on them so the don't dry out and in 24 hours your beans should have germanated, I have even germanated beans from 2016, if you grow autoflowers I suggest you buy your beans from Methisto open every Monday 3pm est but be logged in bc they sell out fast, this week Pink Panama is back, there are 2 legitimate seed banks I use Crop King USA and Nirvana, rarely had any problems,.

I'm on my 2nd run, and might have my first no-pop from a Dutch Passion.

I popped 3 AutoMazar.
There were 2 tiny seeds, and a bigger one.

The 2 tiny seeds germinated fast and vigorous. They were planted in soil after 2 days.

The bigger seed, popped on the first day (see attached image), but then it stopped. It haven't changed since then (+3 days have passed).

During weekend, I was hoping she just needed more time, but now, I'm starting to losing faith on that.

Too bad since my plans were to do a comparison between soils and nutrient quantities, and I needed 3 plants for that.

I'll have to pop 1 more, which will be delayed +1 week from the rest. Hope it doesn't get swollen by the other 2..

Pic 3 - Container used for all my germinations so far. First no pop. Also I'm controlling climate inside and I get 19-22°C and 80-90%. Still open from time to time to renovate oxygen.

Besides this. I'm not sure what improvements they could do in their process.

I've never bred, but we are dealing with living organisms, and these companies produce/sell millions of seeds, so I think is a bit different for a quite smaller breeder since the sample numbers are also quite lower. And, technically, the "risk" of having no pops is also lower (for smaller breeders).

All in all, do you guys think they could better choose their seeds to sell?

Or maybe just stop lying about germination rates and sell them cheaper?

I'm now starting to understand those 3+1 promotions they do..

I think so much of the gene pool in many seedbank varieties are so much diluted and overbred that you have lost all vigor and it is best seen with seedlings, although I think hasty breeding is probably part of the reason too. I wonder how many banks actually run germ rates like most in AG field?? So many of the seeds I have popped lately from hybrid varieties are garbage imo. Sucks also that it takes 3-6 months to discover too that you have four different phenos and they all suck.

Here's my experience so far (very limited)

Mephisto: 10 for 11 on germating (1 Double Grape)
Growers Choice: 5 for 6 on germinating (1 Fruity pebbles)
ILGM: 10 for 10 on germinating (pheno variation is off the charts though. Popped 4 blue dream autos and all 4 looked completely different)
Starfire Genetics: 2 for 2 on germating.
IHG: 1 for 1 on germating
S1G: 2 for 2 on germating

I put warm tap water into a solo red cup, keep it on a heating mat for 24 hours and then plant directly in soil.

I feel like I've been super fortunate with my germination rates, especially with the ILGM seeds.

The last 3 years have been awful and with corny-19 and the plandemic it's at a all time low. Current grow I went through 20 seeds, 4 strains, 4 brands to get 4 good seed pops that resulted in seedlings. Never had issues until weed went limp wristed, fufu bred up hybrid crap weed. I'm trying to get two Alaskan Thunder Fucks to pop right now to kick off the first grow in my new 2x4 tent setup. The breeder is my neighbor and seeds from him cost me nothing but my time.

There are more flimflam men,, cons, and outright trash involved now in weed than ever before. I liked it better back when it was completely illegal. And I wont be voting for rec or completely legal here in Ok. Medical is good enough. Need the trash to keep on moving along...

If you buy shit seeds you get shit seeds...the breeders listed here save one or two are all shit breeders that breed shit...find a breeder that has stuff you like...follow him on forums, IG, Facebook etc...do not stalk them, but see their process, selections, breeding projects, parental lineages and by then, you will be assured of their reputation as well.
Right now I am on a Tony Green kick and I am loving what I am getting so far and have so much more to go through...AND...the dirty bastard is having a new drop on 4/20 and he is forcing me to buy even more!
There are many good breeders to roll with...check out some grow logs too.
Along the way perhaps you could learn new methods to try for seed popping...it can be the easiest thing in the world or it can be the most difficult, but proper technique assures your best chances.

I'm not a breeder and don't want to breed. I collected and grew real weed seed for most of my life. I grew my last real Columbian Gold plant last year from seed collected in 1975. I've been growing this shit fufu weed for about 20 years now and it really does gut the soul. If I didn't really enjoy growing so much I would stop using cannabis all together.

The insinuation that amateur gardeners are incapable of breeding a new strain or hybrid makes the commenters sound ignorant. The fact many try without a clue has added to this opinion. True enough. But many beautiful flowers and vegetables have been improved by “amateurs” who are only called that because nobody is paying them to do it.

I would have but I was battling a advanced case of heart disease and diabetes that was out of control. That I knew nothing about. I was still working and my days were 12 hours long. Just didn't do any clones. I had a widow makers heart attack and emergency open heart surgery in early August last year. The plant finished in early July. My current grow 6 weeks in is my first since the heart attack. and is the longest I've went without a active grow in decades. She was a classic long legged crazy girl that completely owned her grow space. :)
