Hoping someone can clarify a few things as think I've done to much reading on it lol

I've calculated my grow room needs approx 180cfm. I will be adding for heat generated by LED'S, warmer weather and duct fan turns etc so will be going a little bigger prob nearer 300cfm.

Ideally i want the air exchanged every 1 to 2 minutes.

I already have the AC Infinity 67 controller so fan wise it will be definitely be an AC Infinity.

So the AC S6 fan has a CFM of 402cfm, perfectly adequate but I'm thinking that's full blast and I'm worried about the noise.

Would the AC S8 you think at 807CFM running slower be quieter?

I definitely need to get rid of the smell as much as poss and as the grow is in a loft it can get warm in the summer.

Last question is matching up the fan and filter CFM. I understand how to do that but see my confusion below.

If i go AC infinity S6 fan (402cfm) and rhino pro 6inch filter 150 x 600mm at 529cfm I'm worried about running fan fast and noisy to get enough air through the carbon to sort smells.

If I go AC s8 fan 807cfm the biggest rhino 8 inch Pro filter is only 662cfm. I've read the filter should be a larger cfm than the fan so air is pulled though is slower and smells dealt with better.

With the above I've also read lol that i can run a 6inch fan with an 8 inch carbon filter which helps with the noise but also the smell.

Is that correct?

Any advice would be appreciated on any other 8 inch filter that works well for smells and my setup.

TIA. I'm a novice and first grow but my ladies are doing well and want to keep them that way.

Go with 8 and run it slower so it matches the cfm if the filter.

Humidity will be your biggest efficiency challenge imo

I have a 5 x 5 tent and run the ACI S6 fan and Controller 67. They have worked flawlessly so far with one 2000 watt LED light and have kept my temps within my threshold of 75* to 80* along with humidity between 60% and 70%(Seedlings going into veg). The tent is setup in my living room and the home AC(The Lung) runs at 74*. I will be adding another light once they get deep into veg and expect a 5* rise in temp along with a 10% rise in humidity once the girls get bigger and I'm watering them with a higher volume of water. I expect the fan to be able to handle these parameters. When the fan is on FULL(10) I can hear it when I'm in the living room and it's not super loud but you can definitely hear it running.

At first I thought that I had bought too small a fan for the tent but once the tent ran for a few days it settled into the right fan speed to control the thresholds I had set. The S6 is capable of moving 400CFM at full speed. A 5 x 5 x 80(6' 8") equals out to approximately 175 cu/ft. This means the fan can do 2 full air exchanges in the tent every minute at full speed.

Unless your grow space is larger than that you should be fine with the S6 all things considered....

I'll have to look for the thread where the guy showed his testing (if you even want it), but you'll want to put the filter on the exhaust side of the S6.

With the filter on the intake side, you're looking at a drop to ~200 cfm @ max speed, however, by moving the prefilter to the inside of the filter and running it on the exhaust port, the cfm was ~280 cfm. It has to do with how pressure differentials effect how much air the fan blades grab and push.

This will also make it quieter because it eliminates the massive cavatation caused by the "broken vacuum" created by running it on the intake.

Not quite the 300 cfm you wanted, but it would probably work just fine.

Imo that is how you lower the efficiency of VOC removal. So sure you move more air but it wont remove the smell as much.

No amount of filtering hides the smell... well, not my flowers anyways. :-D

It will still remove that sickening level of pollen tho. That's the only thing I'd use those filters for if I was growing in my home. Even a couple hours in the tent after day 45 makes me kinda sick.

Why would you have pollen in your tent? A clogged filter works like crap, a garbage filter works like crap, a filter in high humidity works like crap, improper air direction works like crap… many reasons you may not have seen how much an effective filter helps.

Helps, sure... but a loss of 10% effectiveness (or less) on odor control is nothing, unless you're eliminating 100% of the smell.

I'd take the cfm... but that's me. :-D

Yeah... pollen... my bad. The pharmones released by the flowers to attract pollinators. It clogges my sinuses just as bad as pollen.

Im confused you prefer more air exchange with a lower ability to remove the irritant that bothers you?

You mean the terpenes? Your saying you can smell the pheromones?

It only bothers me in high concentrations over prolonged spans of time.

Besides, you can get 100% oder elimination in the house by growing outside or in a shed like space.

Lol then why run a filter at all?
I don't. I was relaying some information from that guy in the HVAC thread regarding his solid post on the physics of those AC "6 fans.

The OP was looking for more cfm to manage overheating.

You shared your observation that putting the filter on the exhaust port would diminish oder control.

I dared to doubt it would be significant enough to matter... but that's my opinion.

Fair enough but that just defeats the purpose of using one
