Need recommendations for LED and tent

Hello!! I am wanting to bite the bullet and buy a complete set kit for indoor growing. I’m legally allowed to have 6 plants flowering at one given time, so I would like to have a tent and light setup that will suffice. I do not care about yield, I only care about quality.

As for the tent, I would need metal poles and a durable tent siding with zippers. I am leaning towards Mars Hydro tent setup but I am assuming I’ll need a 3x3 setup.

I’ve never grown indoors with LEDs on MH and HPS so this is all new to me and worrisome to drop $$ into something that may not work out. After seeing the technology change and obvious evidence from the results here, I’m convinced I want to get a setup, just not sure what the best tent + LED system will work best to grow quality bud for 6 plants at a time.

Start with a basic 2x4 Spider Farmer kit with their SP2000. It's a decent basic setup and will let you grow 2-3 plants from seed to harvest. That way you don't have a HUGE investment into a larger setup and aren't disappointed or find you have wasted money. Once you have a harvest under your belt, you have lots of choices. I started with a 2x4, then added a 4x4 with a pair of HLG lights. Perpetual grow. Use the 2x4 to veg and start plants, then rotate them every 2 weeks into the 4x4.

Thank you for that information!! I have a small dedicated room for my veg. I have an all year 12/12 schedule so I’ve been growing outdoors, but want to go indoors to help control my environment.

I’m in Mexico so to get these tents and lights are very expensive because they have to be imported. So I also don’t want to start small just to have to upgrade to my 6 plant maximum as I will just have to fork out even more $$.

My veg room can start the 6 plants without issues but want a tent and sufficient light to flower them.

If I wanted to go to a store direct, this is what I could get for around $800 for a 4x4 setup, just not sure of the quality.

So you want to be able to flower 6 plants and that's it? That light there is probably underpowered for what you want. If you are just looking for quality and 6 plants, I would put them in a 5ft by 5ft space. This will give you plenty of room to work around the plants and keep them healthy and attended to. I have 3 tents currently and one of the things that I have avoided is purchasing a single light for the entire tent. I always get 2+ lights so that I can adjust the heights in the events that I have plants that have different characteristics like height. For the light, if you have access to the Mars Hydro line and are looking to fill a 5x5 tent, you might consider a pair of their TSL2000 or if you can afford them, their SP6500 bar lights are awesome and a pair of them would fill out a 5x5 very nicely.

I’ll measure out my space but I’m sure I have enough room for a 5x5. I want to do this right the first time, so if I have to invest heavy on the equipment that is fine as long as I don’t have to repurchase for inadequate lighting and space.

I can get 2 TS2000 fairly reasonable, so I may invest in that and get those ordered.

Because where I’m at, those lights are not affordable….almost $2200 versus $500 for each TS2000

Just so you know though, I only suggest the 5x5 to give you a little breathing room. You can totally get 6 plants into a 4x4. It's just very tight. Right now I have 3 Gorrilla Zskittlez from Barney's and 3 Wedding Cake from Seedsman in soil, 5 gallon pots and it is TIGHT. I have them scroged with PVC and netting but it's still a mess in there, 3 weeks from harvest.

I am a glutton though. My 5x5 has 10 plants in it and is also overly crowded. I don't even follow my own advice about breathing room to work around. I just jam as many as I can into the space then spend the next 8-9 weeks bitching to anybody that listen about how my back hurts cause I have to crawl around the outside of the tent to get anything done. HAHA.

That is great man, and definitely what I needed to know. I definitely want ease of access to the plants because I have a horrible back and bending over for long periods isn’t very ideal. :)

I'd build a closet out of cardboard before I pay that for a tent. 43 years growing and I still don't have one.

I was thinking about a DIY, but it’s only me and im not very crafty. I was thinking of the tent because it seems easier to control the environment. I haven’t done cardboard before, any issues with keeping humidity levels, or how the cardboard gets effected with moisture in the air? Seems like a future mold issue, but I’m not sure as I’ve never done it.

A cheap Amazon tent is fine. Just get the size you need. But some economical duct fans and filters. Don't splurge on anything except the light.

Perfect!! Thank you for the recommendation! I do have a local store that sells the tents for about that price and look very similar! They do have a 5x5 in stock for around $160US. Think I will get that and order these lights.

I never used it - and I never paid $5,900 for a tent. I just use a closet or a room in the house. Just need a fan, a light and exhaust.
