Brix meter I use weekly at work is fancy. I imagine a few grand, but yea you calibrate it with RO and it just lets us know how much water is in our product. Digital readout within 3 seconds.

Personally in hydro I like my PH to slowly swing between 5.5 and 6.2. My thought is this helps with multiple nutrients. I'd like to devise a test to this effect and have the system automatically dose up or down based on an algorithm. You know, for science.

Once I get my seedlings into the flower tent, I might take one of the 4 res'es and do a test like this. A corollary would be that PH could be used as yet another tool in the arsenal for managing nute uptake. For example, instead of dumping in cal-mag, would it be better to raise PH to center on 6.2 for a week if you see a calcium or magnesium deficiency? I would just need to figure out the sweet spots for each salt while not depriving another.

this is personally why I haven’t moved to rockwool yet - I have it but soil is to fuckin easy

the short answer is, the sugar in the plant it tied to everything, plant health, pest control, THC, yield smell taste, efficiency of photosynthesis, growth etc. so by defoliating you disrupt this, if your plant has high brix, it goes from having lots and easy translocation, to not having enough, or being able to make enough, spending more energy to get it, more energy to translocation of what it has, more is going in growing more leaves, etc while quality and size of buds takes a back seat

I usually like buy it once and be done. That is so hard in todays world. We had a refrigerator from like 1976 at work. Is just crapped out 28 months ago. If you can get a brand new refrigerator to go 15 years it is amazing. I believe the word is planned obsolescence. I had a front load washer it made it to about 8 years. It quit working, I figured what the heck. It is already broke all I can do is break it further. Kind of a cool set up. Sort of an inverse electric motor with one sensor. Got the part number for the sensor, mold injected on the part. Put it on and I was back in business. I was so proud only to have the water pump take a dump 5 months later. They plan it that way
