I'm a tad late for the Monday update...

The reason being is that there was an exorcism of plants that honestly were sucking the life & good spirits right out of me every time I opened the tent. All DFG plants have been exorcised & man I feel a huge relief. I'm not going to mess with unhealthy plants. No other plants I have grown in 3+ years have ever looked as bad or had as many issues with even from all my mistakes over the years. Even the new growth looked crappy. I had to make the call.

My reuse of Coco was a bad idea without adequate time to decompose. I am thinking those folks using Cannzyme or whatever were in the right, not the twits that just say pull out the old plant, give it a rinse, throw a new one in. Maybe an established plant would have a better chance than the seedlings, but even last grow after transplant the plants were slow growing.

So, until I find more time, I am moving on from this 5 week nightmare that has made things miserable. I've already lost two grow cycles due Hermies & Coco issues etc.

Current crew of Regs (ugh) was up potted to 1/2 gals last weekend, most a week old. Praying for Fem's....(so much for these being closet Mom's I had planned for haha)

2 Cambodian Crasher
2 Wedding Crasher
1 The Cube x Romulan
1 Ancient Chocolate
1 Blue Cookies
2 Headbanger x Goji OG

Only saving grace is this Twenty20 plant of Ave. of Giants. This girl is picking up the pace after being shoved here and there, now in the scrog a week or so, getting two feeds per day. Whoa this gal smells like Sweet Tarts and is supposed to be happy weed. She's a 10 weeker, in week 5 now so I hope she puts on the weight in the next weeks. Some happy weed for Christmas should be in order maybe if she finishes in time, or New Years lol...

Haha...I don't know about a "wake up" of any kind honestly. I tried to save a few bucks...didn't pay off...my turn to pay said piper I guess lol

maybe...

"lesson learned"
"learn the hard way"
"shoulda done more research"

or the #1 choice of the people

"dumbass move" lol

would be better categories šŸ¤” šŸ˜‚

Getting to the bottom of current growing probs.

It has taken a few runs to catch up to me (2 to 3 runs) but my used coco is acting like soil. Thus all my seedling issues and now transplant issues are due to reusing the coco before the organic stuff (old roots) has had a chance to breakdown.

Here is a video I did a bit ago...thoughts???
View attachment 1301286

To be clear...I do soak & rinse the coco, actually strain (pasta strainer size holes) out the peat (fine crap), rebuffer for 24 hours, drain, fluff, store in tote.
That said though when I reuse with some organic matter left it appears to be causing major water retention. I mean this shit is still way heavy after 3 days even.
Quite a mess trying to save some dough.

New folk to this journal have gotta think I can't even grow grass or just coming for the laughs lol.

So it gonna be all new coco from here on out. It's already alot of work to reuse, I'm not adding anymore time to the process.

I've never had much success with re-using coco, I put it down to the salts in my nuits building up to a point that you would need a fire hose to flush them out, and like you, I found it destroyed the coco which made it clog like a swamp.

Thanks for that input man, lesson learned here, albeit the hard way (is there any other way lol šŸ˜†)
On second thought I do live next door to the FD...they have the hose & pressure to wash that coco šŸ˜œšŸ˜

Iā€™ve actually been contemplating reusing the coco ,building a box to throw it all in and run cannazym through it to break down the roots.mine doesnā€™t look all that bad really after first run .the top loose stuff in the pot Iā€™d throw as that always dries out pretty quick.Iā€™d have to build box and put it in the shed to stop all types of insects getting into itā€¦.yous have all gone and scared me a little now hahaha . shes reasonably expensive at fiddy bucks for 50 litres.using 2 bags a grow.

I still think its doable Max. Just not the 3rd run & no way on the 4th run which is where I was at. At that point it may better be mixed with soil & minerals to build a supersoil? IDK Maybe I should keep some for when I go to soil but that's a ways out b4 that change. I did everything but use an enzyme product such as Cannazyme and wait. When I was researching about it the general concensus seemed to be just wash, rinse & strain fine peat out and rebuffer 24hrs and reuse.

Don't be scurred brother...give it a whirl lol, I certainly would be interested to see if its like new after but it's work & time plus jacking with coco in the winter months is some extra hassle using the wife's tub n all when she's not lookin šŸ¤«šŸ¤

I use Promix and I''ve only reused it if plants failed or were male and get culled out early before flower nutes have been added.
I need more soil so i go online to see if the local hardware store has some......I'm in luck they say they have 29 bales @ $34.95 3.8cu/ft bale so we drive on down to pick it up....Nope they won't sell it to me....its in a case load and they won't open the case until next Spring...I said but your web site says you have it........Fk the web site we're not opening the case until Spring......MFkers.....Now I gotta go 30 min away to get it.

I think we all pretty much do that in those circumstances. šŸ‘

See, you should look into reusing your soil, look at all the hassle it would save šŸ˜šŸ˜‚šŸ¤£

Always tryin to help out when I can, šŸ¤” maybe.....what if the wrapping gets cut by mistake when no one's around and now it's open šŸ˜

I jest of course...

Na soil is cheap really for what I get I can grow a bunch of plants with. I have a shit ton of it out back in the yard. I was giving it to the cats as a shit box filler outside in their containment area but it got pretty bad out there last summer had to stop that. We had warm moist weather and WoW does that shit stink when mixed with Promix and let to marinate then slow cook for a month or 2......thought it was our septic.....nope......3 cats put out a lot of shit....lol

Don't know about another way, but, I used to be a hardcore DWC man, which is another option for media. I took a small part from the DWC buckets, although it was only they hydroton part, so I've been using it for a medium for a while now, but even it collects salts over time and becomes a problem just like coco. The reason I dumped coco as a medium is because my garden was ten inches higher than my next doors garden due to the amount of coco I dumped on it as a side effect of my indoor activities, so I moved onto hydorton, I get a couple of grows from it and then it done. I used to use rock wool, but it takes 10 years to break down in the soil, so I dumped that. Hydorton is where I am now, but getting rid of the Hydroton when its blown is as hard as dumping the rock wool, makes good paths though. šŸ˜
