Now I know distilled or ro water is ideal. I got that, but all of us have had to use tap water at some point. If you live in the city, or use city water chances are it contains chlorine and or chloramine. Well if you have vitamin c then your going to be able to neutralize the chlorine/chloramine in under 5 minutes. 40 MG of vitamin c per gallon is it. Most vitamin c pills contain 500mg +. So just a small fraction of the tablet. Crush put in water -shake- let sit 5 min. That's it.
Best part is it took my city water w ph of 7.7 to 6.8. Almost ideal.( I put probably around 100mg roughly. )

Here's a good link if u think I'm full of smoke.

You can also boil water for 15 minutes, or get a filter for your tap.

Personally I'd go with the filter just for the ease and not having worry about adding more stuff to it.

Or you can leave your water sitting at room temp for 20-24 hours and all the chlorine will evaporate out of it.

I don't bother removing chlorine and haven't had an issue on it. I'm sure there's some good reasons to use RO or distilled water, but I don't think it honestly makes that much of a difference (at least when growing in soil) and seems like more effort than is necessary unless your water has a super high amount of chlorine (over 4ppm).

Yea some where along the lines I thought I had to use distilled. Well spending 10 bucks a week on water got old so I bought a zero water filter. Would take forever to fill a gallon so I stumbled open what i posted earlier. Thought someone else out there might need it for fishtank or plants. Pets. Whatever

I only use bottled water until they sprout / require actual watering, but then it’s just tap water w/ nutrients added.

But yeah, if it’s something you feel good about doing and if it helps you, then keep on doing it.

Or you can just not worry about the chlorine or chloramine.
Agreed.

Unless you're using the water for certain aquatic life and reptiles, then there's no reason to worry about it.

I like the idea I go through 15 gallons every few days. I appreciate it.

How come ? I thought they kill microbes

People have been watering with treated water for decades and nobody has had any shortages of veggies or weed :p

Seems like an unnecessary process, especially if you’re adding nutrients and mycorrhiza.

Just my $0.02 on it.

You only need to do this fish and reptiles. Cats, dogs, etc it has no effect on

Let me caveat, when I do living soil I filter through a inline carbon filter on my hose to remove it. Because yes it will kill some. Not all though. And we keep adding microbes anyway.

In regular soil like FFOF I don’t bother filtering and I have no I’ll effect by doing so.

Yeah I think you're right. I was using an RV hose filter on my city tap to get rid of chloramines, but lately I haven't been using it and have noticed zero affect on plants. And interestingly enough I have one nute that has a trace amount of chlorine in it on purpose.

I will be using straight tap for now on in my my hydro system which is often more picky about its water source than soil grows.

I like the other trace elements that come with the city's tap water. Chlorine isn't an issue if you let your water degas for ~24 hrs. I tried the RO water route and immediately my plants let me know they didn't like it.

If I was doing hydro or synthetics I would 100% be using RO and adding my own elements back in.

p.s Chlorine is still technically a micronutrient that plants require so completely removing it isn't ideal either.

Boiling will not remove chloramines ... at least not very efficiently. You would have to boil 10 gallons of water for an hour to remove one mg/l. You'd be far better off using ascorbic acid (vitamin c) to neutralize it. It's precisely because chloramines stay in the water and is very difficult to remove that the municipal water supply industry has shifted away from chlorine gas.

As for its effects in soil? Not much at all. Soil microbes bounce back very quickly. With that said, if you're brewing microbial teas you want to use a chlorine-free water source.

If you can't get RO water just use rainwater. The ppm of rain is about (17 ppm} and the pH is about 5.5 ph. Rain needs to be buffered with cal mag before use but it's very clean water compared to Tap water. .

I appreciate your help as well, I didn't know this prior to reading your post,so it's most appreciated.I go through the water 🌊 myself but I have always let set for 24 now I think I will go this route. I love learning new things, thanks to THC farmer!

I'm glad someone was helped. When I found it I smiled I have vit c left over from flu craziness and it just sits mostly collecting dust
