Hey there my fellow farmers, I have a question for any DWC peeps. I have a plant that was getting brown and yellow leaves, I flushed it and it looks worse this morning.. I'm thinking now it wasn't getting enough nutrients instead of too much...leaf pic at bottom. Any ideas would be appreciated.. right now she still in flush gotta do something soon. She is apple betty clone, under 650w led

I bought the larger connector of the 2 as I already had the smaller size connector.
I did it this way as I wanted to keep the unit intact for warranty purposes. That’s why I made a Y-cable and heat shrink the connections.

Found some openings but don’t like the tight spaces. Will redo when I get a better game plan. Got some time for now.

I've only done one DWC. It was a fail but I learned a lot and will attempt again in the future. Mine developed root issues and associated nutrient deficiencies. Tried a number of remedies to no avail. I would suggest inspection of root mass. Roots should be white (nutrient staining aside). No slime or brown. This would indicate root rot or early stages of it. This wound up being my problem. I've seen others recover from worse cases than mine but I was unsuccessful. Keep at it. Win or lose its a learning opportunity. Also I'd suggest creating a new post to address your issue rather than piggybacking an existing topic. Good luck.

I have a short 3 tier because I wanted to test it first. If I build another it will be a larger capacity one since I know it works.

I would just find whatever has the largest capacity while not breaking the bank. If your buying new equipment a lot of people are having great results with koolatron 20 bottle. During prime day it was $160.

I had to get an account to jump in here and talk about these wine cooler cannitrol DIY projects. I'm about to get a thermoelectric/peltier style wine fridge from ebay. From what I hear, the TE style coolers need to be dehumidified, while the compressor style coolers need to be humidified. Am I correct here? So the one guy that took apart the dehumidifier, and put the guts in the bottom and control it with the inkbird, where does the water drip go? Does it collect in the bottom of the fridge somewere? Could you also just use a bunch of silica/descant or Bovida packs to regulate the humidity? From what I'm gathering the cannatrols have a dehumidifier and a drip pan in the back, and/or a sponge with dish, depending on your environment.

The compressor fridge will strip moisture really fast so people put their bud in paper bags to create a barrier. I’ve never seen anyone put a humidifier in a fridge. It may work well but I’m skeptical of it, I would be concerned that the humidifier would get the bud wet being in such a small environment.


For the wine cooler tech; these fridges come with a small drain port preinstalled in the back. The water will drip down and collect in a small reservoir. This reservoir will fill up a few times during the whole ordeal. Usually like 8oz total so nothing crazy.

I think the heat rod would achieve the same results as the Dehum. All those rods do is increase the temperature which in return would decrease the RH. As the temperature increases the TEC on the fridge should ramp up and work harder - pulling the moisture from the environment.

I use fridge for wine (8C), which has also inline sort of and the residua of humidity is gathered outside but only for A-grade buds. Takes approximatelly 2 weeks to reduce weight to 20%. Rest is drying in tent with inline fan and small fan at pottom pointing on the wal on tent, never on buds) at around 22C, 55-60% RH. No molds after years, althought I always clean tent before with isopropil alcohol.

with a heat rod I wouldn’t expect it to collect any water. I don’t see why it wouldn’t work but I haven’t tested it or seen anyone else trying it.

Cannatrolls patent uses a “heating element” in their design. I would guess it’s probably something like a heating rod.


Whatever water collects in the fridge will drain out through the drain port. So it’s just preference on how you want to collect the water. Cutting the water reservoir off the Dehum is nice because you don’t have to worry about it filling up and turning off and it makes it shorter so the shelves don’t hit it.

I rather put a-grade buds in plastic bags and let the upper part of bag open in fridge wine. It condensate lil bit of water at bottom of bag but I shake the bag once every 4-5 days. No problem so far, dimension with buds in bag are around 10x15x15cm.
I dont like to use food grade paper bags, it dries faster and smell weird.
Didnt also do some special tweaks to fridge with additional fans. I think it wokld dry faster too, which u dont want. U wanna cure this way minimum 2 weeks.
If u have problem with humidity, perhaps add rice, which will absorb a lot.

Freeze drying probably the best instead of buying big fridge for wine but find a distributor to get a wholesale price or contact manufacturer.

I wouldn’t freeze dry bud. I would only use it for hash. I believe freeze drying takes your moisture content to like 3-4%. Traditional dried bud is around 8-12%. Freeze dryers also cost way too much for the average home grower.
