I’m growing 2 photoperiod plants from seed…..it’s been exactly 3 weeks old since they broke the surface.
A week ago I decided to move them from solo cups to 1 gal pots. The first plant slipped out and in perfect, but the other fell apart during the move.
The roots got all twisted and moved about. I finally got it transplanted and, as suspected, it shocked it and slowed down the growth.
Finally after a week, it looks to be recovering and I’m noticing some growth.
The other plant is now quite a bit bigger and is leaving her sister in the dust.
I figure it’s time to top the bigger one and I usually lop off the 6th node.
But I was wondering if it would be ok to top it above the 4th this time??
I thought it might help with the size difference and give the stunted one a chance to catch up.
Pics are from this morning and I’m pointing to where I’m considering the snip.
Lemme know what you think.
And thanks for chiming in.

Yes you can but I just pinch the top off and if it get taller than the other just pinch and bend where you want, The other plant will catch up soon, by 6 weeks you won't notice the difference. Youtube Kyle Kushman Chiropractics, It makes the stalk stronger and after doing it you can manipulate the plants into any shape you want with a flexible stalk.

Yes I’ve done Kushman’s version, basically super cropping….works great.

I don't go that far, stripping everything off is just too scary for me I like the chiropractics though, it really beefs up the stalk after the initial flexibility when snapping them. I like the pop too. lol

You can clip the quicker one a little sooner to help them maintain a consistent canopy, but keep in mind they will be structured slightly differently which could cause troubles with consistency later on when they bolt into flower.
I would suggest structuring them the same in hopes of the slower one bouncing back.
Then resort to LST if required.
Your pen point is right where I would usually top for the first time; 6th node is running a little late if you are planning multiple toppings.
Note: B Vitamins go a long way for destressing a plant.

Vitathrive by Green Planet is my go-to, easy to mix and low-scent for those who are sensative to smells.
There are other options such as Thrive alive or Super Thrive that will suffice.
B Vitamin is integral as a follow up for any stressors such as; pruning, transplant, accidental drought, light stress, etc.
You will see a major difference in the vegetative process if used correctly.
