Hello Fellow Growers,

I’m Davis, a 44-year-old gardener with some successful cannabis grows under my belt. I’m looking for advice on strains that can help with my worsening arthritis pain.

I have intermediate growing skills and would appreciate any strain recommendations and growing tips, whether for indoor or outdoor setups.

Grandaddy Purple is good for Arthur! Pancakes and Northern Lights also decent. These are Indica and will chill you out and relax you. You might need a sativa if using in day time. I have zero experience in Sativa, I only grow Indica or hybrids.

These guys are on the money. I turned a coworker onto cbd. Started as topicals. Now he swears by high cbd gummies and such. He even gets cbd treats for his old dog now too!

I grow both THC and a CBD strain (Cherry Wine hemp) and make a sauve using 3-1 (wife's doctor recommended). She has diabetic neuropathy and the sauve takes away the pain in her feet in about 10 minutes. She also takes two CBD caps everyday.

I’ve used topical on my wrist for ongoing issues, whatever I was using eased some of the discomfort! It was nice.

That’s exactly what I’ve found so far! Doesn’t really stop the pain but definitely stops you thinking about it

When I first got my medical card I was shocked with the medicine. I have a screwed up back from being hit by a drunk driver a few times, then another car. I bought from the streets. First day at the dispensary by back was like a bowl of rice crispies snap crackle pop. Instant relief, unfortunately after they legalized recreational the medicine went downhill. Even the same companies with the same strains just a night and day difference.

My wife and I both have degenerative arthritis. She also suffers from fibromyalgia and bad restless legs related to an iron absorption issue. I have ulcerative colitis. We have our go-to strains but at times needs to switch things up. Chronic pain can also come with occasion anxiety when pain gets bad. We find that slurricane gives us the most broad relief. It can be sedating so a strain called Slurty3 gives it a nice uplift for daytime use. For pain though nothing beats mandarin sunset for us.

My best advice is learn about terpenes. Especially if you are growing primarily for medical use. Where there is pain, there is inflammation. Just how the body works. There are a few anti-inflammatory terpenes. Beta Caryophillene is one of the most abundant terpenes in cannabis. It's the peppery part of black pepper. It's a great anti-inflammatory. It's also in herbs like basil and mint. It's the trrpenes that with provide the therapeutic benefits in your smoke and your food. I also use that knowledge to incorporate into your cooking. Grow or buy fresh herbs or at least fill your spice rack like it was your medicine cabinet.

Personally I grow for terps first.

Got lucky, no jail. This was back in '86 before they really started cracking down on drunk driving. Actually never really hit me until 12 years ago when I moved back to MN. Had to pay a 30 year old fine and re-take the driving test. I paid the fine, too lazy to go take the test, wait 6 months then the driving test. MN is a messed up state. 6 months on a permit before you can take the road test. 😡

I just wanted to follow up with a couple of things I failed to mention. I should have added that sativas and sativa dominant hybrids can provide relief, as well. Finally, just a note on trimming you buds for maximum therapeutic benefits. Cannabis produces 3 types of trichomes. We are all familiar with stalked trichomes. The ones that contain cannabinoids. There are 2 other types of trichomes that contain terpenes. Stalked trichomes are concentrated mostly on the flower material whil terpene trichoms are predominantly on the leaves. See below.

The 2 on the right contain terpenes and the one on the left has cannabinoids.

So be mindful of that when it comes time to trim. A tight trim might look nice if you are going for bag appeal but you're just robbing yourself of lots of good stuff. I doubt that it's a coincidence that there are twice as many terp "vessels" compared to cannabinoids. J/s Terpenes are the plants "armor" against pests. I dry trim. It's really fast and easy. Any leaf material that doesn't have a trichome coating breaks off easily, leaving behind only the stuff you want. There is nothing useful in what breaks off so it just goes into the compost.
