For those of us Outdoor growers, something to think about.

Why Beryl's rain isn't our ordinary Michigan rain

Excerpt from https://www.mlive.com/weather/2024/07/why-beryls-rain-isnt-our-ordinary-michigan-rain.html

"Now think about the different things that can be in a raindrop from Africa and the tropics. I haven’t seen any actual research on this but tropical rains can carry more and different nutrients within the drop. I call this rain, “the great green-up.” Look at your grass. Look at your vegetable and flower garden after the rain. If it’s not drowned out, your garden with go through robust growth this week. It will be like you fertilized it. It’s about to get nature’s “Miracle-Gro.”

There’s a downside of rain from another part of the world too. These rains and muggy air can bring plant diseases not normally in our area. Plants have an immune system too. They may not know how to fight off a certain airborne plant pathogen. You probably won’t notice this but growers of cucumbers, tomatoes and sugar beets may."

You damn inside growers are messing up the climate🤣

who dreams up this shit?

amen to that.
Normally I’m all types of prepared every weather person in the us and the weather tracking programs all failed. No one in Houston thought it was coming here.
Like I have silver, and some gold in hard currency, I could probably use that to smash a window and snatch a bag of chips?

Weather people have been ass this year

That's fucked bro, our infrastructure is so fragile. Maybe trade some weed for gas? Damn man, If you were even remotely close, I'd drive you a bunch of gas. 😔
Bro I just acquired gas that exact way.
My neighbor is a saint. I was able to get 4 5g cans from him. Tossed him a zip. And
CATASTROPHE AVERTED
Still no fn power though.
And bro no worries, this isn’t how I Normally do this shit, it’s just when you get told by everyone in Texas that the storm is making landfall 400 miles to the south, that’s plenty far enough to where all we would feel here is a few rain bands. That is no sweat. But since it made landfall 35miles away.
Yeah we got caught slipping. All of Houston too. No one thought or even staged any emergency response the day prior to landfall. Which is normally what happens. So I have gas, for now. 👊🏻🤡

When I did the 14 year old seeds I did scarification (same method as you roll tape shake) then 12 hour soak in 20:1 water /peroxide

Then straight to the soil, watered in with clonex clone and seedling solution, got 2/3 to pop, gunna do some more oldies soon I’ll be doing the same method

I also got the seeds between my fingers took the sandpaper and sanded down the split ridge down the seed so it had less resistance to pop
For the Maui 86 I did very similar, I scarified in a matchbox with 400 grit sandpaper, good shakes for about 5 seconds, then soaked for prob 10-12 hours in a cup of water with a few drops of peroxide, then I popped on wet paper towel also with a couple peroxide drops so I could keep them in a sterile environment a little longer and not waste soil on non viable seed.

I'm very soil poor over here lmfao. And as slow as capts were I was worried my compost in the mix would backfire on me. I wanted popped beans before planting, and that one still took almost 2 weeks after popping to show itself lmao. In my particular mix it prob would have rotted before popping otherwise.

Since I’ve been dealing with this shit for 25 years now, this whiff, was 100% unprecedented. I can’t remember a more monumental fuck up having to deal with storms than this. And Ike in 08, had yachts on the interstate and power was on faster. Harvey, it will be longer than that fucking beast by this evening. And Houston was under water.
Something ain’t right. But it’s all gravy. This too shall motherfucking pass.

Your grid is over a decade older now with nothing but bandaids applied since would be my guess.

Tennessee pays for infrastructure and schools with the lottery and a hemp farm bill tax. Our grid is legit as fuck tbh. Longest I had power out in spring was about 5 hours. And that was one helluva crazy hail/wind storm. Even up here in the mountain sticks it's pretty solid, and the roads are even better. Def don't envy Texas's grid. Honestly the roads up here in the mountains are the best roads I've ever been on anywhere. Kinda blew me away.
