Lol I’m so conflicted in where to run it I have the 4x4 empty… but do I wanna fire up all that gear for 1 plant? Not sure, I’m thinking veg in the lab under the SF600 then plop them into the flower tent with the others, damn near close setting up the 4x4 as a dry tent only now that the lab is up and running but I know I’ll want a taller space to veg out some bigger plants before flowering

The SF600 is a small light but damn does it ever make some nice stocky plants, this damn x okie is only about 8” tall but if I flipped this girl right now i know she’d explode, I gotta go back and do some timed comparisons to see the growth rate and planting date etc
Could you just fill the 4x4 so you're not running all of it just for 1 plant? I agree it might be a little much for 1 plant but I can't say much because I just bought all new gear for this contest lol.

The SF600 is 72 watts, the light I'm using is 150 watts but more then likely I'll be only running it at 50-75 watts max in veg. The SF600 is narrow but I would think the beam angle and reflectors would make up for that.

I've always wanted to try the air pots, great opportunity to test one before purchasing bigger sizes for a full run. Watering in them might be new for me, I've read you have to go quite slow or the water runs out of the holes.
Idk why I never thought to make some with a plastic pot and drill lol.

Oh yeah haha the 5gallon buckets I use are similar to airpots basically just covered in 5/8” holes top to bottom and if I flood the top right away it’ll run out the holes instantly, I use the same method for the grow bags, plants use a gallon and a half each I’ll use maybe 1/4 gallon just to slowly moisten the whole top of the 12 gal I think it’s 16 inches across so I’ll just go all around then wait a minute then hit with the rest of the gallon fairly slowly, then I’ll wait a few minutes then do the same with the last half gallon each, no runoff

I still have 3 clones in the lab but I’m thinking I’m gunna try to flower with the SF600 for fun and see what she can do for 72 watts

Gunna have the cman x okie in flower as soon as I can clone her, then I have 2 cali blues freak clones rooting plus the Frostette clone which I’ll probably mother, plus the 2 in the flower tent, this gallon challenge is so out of my style of growing 🤣, trying to comprehend my brain from focusing on large plants haha

They are overly available in Southern California. Most of them have spider mites and or pm. However there is one supplier here that pretty solid “the clone guy”. I feel like every body here should take the time to learn to clone.
To clone MJ is just the best way to always have a healthy source of freedom an save a paycheck.

Let’s see how many people want to do each type of medium I was gunna lump all mediums together as some run soil, I run peat, some run coco, if we spilt to too may categories it’ll be a mess on the forum with 20 topics going lol

OR we can have a closed category, all start from seed, medium types soil coco peat only exemption would be hydro but organic only, anything used must have an OMRI approval on it and hand water only no automatic watering for those that want a hard ruled challenge

BUT then have an open category where it’s open to all types, and you can enter both of them with seperate plants or the same plant
Im in whenever

Ok folks maybe this will help us decide sprout / seedling / veg times then a flip date

Here’s the Cman x okie since she was put in water, June 1st soaked overnight put into soil June 2nd

4th of July pic was an up pot from 4” pot to 6” pot as well as topped
So from soak to today that’s 40 days so far

Left pic dates attached to easier see each stage and date

IMO June 21st would be end of seedling and start of veg, opinions anyone? That was be 21 days from soak, then veg time currently since then is 20 days of veg, so 3 weeks for sprout and seedling, then switch into veg currently at 21 days, do folks think that’s enough time? Before flipping to flower? I’d throw this girl in a 1 gal pot and toss her in the flower tent but I’m waiting to get a clone off her first then she’s going right in I’ll probably throw her in a Gaia green bucket for a week or 2 to let her stretch out some nodes then she’s movin

to be clear this veg time includes 1 topping at the 6th node I believe (then I strip the bottom node off to make bottom clearance from the soil, just part of my method)
Seems legit, should we just run the contest for 120 days from the start date?

If you want to join in on the fun, do what you have to do!
That's why I'm cleaning out a closet, I have nowhere else but I really want to be in this competition!
I bought a light that I showed in my previous post but other then that I just need a 1 gallon pot.
Kind of crazy to buy a light just for this and I don't want to invest to much so I'm not going to run an exhaust in the closet either, I'm just going to leave the door open lol. Unless I talk myself into making the closet a permanent grow space, then I might buy ventilation.
Oh no, now I'm thinking which usually leads to more money being spent.

See what you did @Mikedin 😂
I got 5 fresh rooted clones going into veg, 5 rooting behind them, 3 in cups of water behind that. I have 5 actively vegging seedlings/young plants and 5 more in to pop. I have a single 5x3 closet space and a 4x4 tent thats been delayed in shipment for over a week now. I think im up to 21 distinct female genetics now :x

I need to get all my plants as mothers mothers into the tent so i can flower clones of all the plants i dont have outside before i even know exactly what im working with genetics wise. I also have a sizable breeding agenda already

If i can get this damn 4x4 up and running, and not feel like im falling behind where i wanna be by the end of July, i might.

I still havent even gone to read back through what kind of outline/rules were agreed upon yet lmao. Been a chicken running around with no head for the last two weeks 99% of the time from work to home lmao.

i think its getting a little out of hand, who cares what u grow in, as long as its a 1 gal pot, i agree with splitting up auto's & regular seeds, i also think it should be the cheapest strains of each, maybe we can get one of the seed vendors to sell us a choice of the two seeds from their cheapest inventory, then we can see how good or in my case bad we can grow them in a 1 gal pot.......
The issue is they are so different in what’s the preferred pot size for that media.
For example coco, rockwool, and most ‘inert’ media uses 1 gallon as the preferred size.
It works best, and I agree.
The more irrigation events bring more 02 and fresh nutes.
While soil is basically the complete other end of the spectrum.
Bigger is generally better.

I would recommend classifying any fully inert media in its own category.
Then soil as its own category.

Totally agree and I'm a coco grower BUT this isn't really a competition, no prizes as far as I know it's just a friendly comp for bragging rights AND if it goes well we can start doing these every year.

How do you think outdoor growers feel about starting in August? We can't control much. I do have LED's in the greenhouse but they're not grow lights it's just to keep the plants in veg.

So in the future we can have several different categories with the different styles but this time? Just for fun and see who's doing what and the interest that will garner from most just checking out the site. Win win😉

Now, are there going to be rules on asking for help with any potential issues? Or am I going to have to join another site to get my help when I fuck up? 😂😂
🤣🤣. Last time they had a topic for the competitors to post their pics every few days, then another “chat” topic where everyone could talk about issues and help eachother, and people not in the competition can chime in and Hang out as well
