First time grow in zone 9b, lets learn from my mistakes

Im on a desperate hunt for that stains your sinuses pine flavor. It just vanished all of a sudden about 15 years ago. The old deadhead who grew the buds my Original jack x original big bud seeds came from. His buds were giant pointy christmas trees that stained your smell with their lemon pine scent.

He just left some original jack plants from old mendo seed interbreed season after season with some old original big buds in the ozark mountains. Pollen chucked naturally with themselves year after year for almost 30 years. So its not jack or big bud anymore, or really even a cross, its it's own genotype now really. But im desperately hoping they bring that lemon pine flavor the buds i smoked had. I hadnt tasted that in AGES and forgot about it until i tasted those buds. My peaceblasters have nailed that skunk next road over dankness before, hoping one of them will this time. PB1's stems wreak of raunchyness and skunk-ass in the stems already.

pine, lemon, and skunk. those are the traits im after flavor wise. I love good blueberry but for some reason always let it go.

When I worked farmers markets I did a lot of trading with vendors. There was an old russian dude who’s son grew weed, and he would get veggies sometimes and throw me a bag of weed and it was a good day.

Once he gave me some UGLY beat up shakey shit that I just pocketed and went about my day. Got home and opened it and it smelled like straight piss. Like almost didn’t wanna smoke it. That shit got me sooooo high.

The another time I traded a coworker an ounce of lemon tree for some what he said was train wreck. Smelled like funky baby neck cheese.

i also dont know if thats a lockout form ph, or slight nute issue, or a sensitivity to intense sun exposure. Id have to see it closer. Or if it will even become a problem for you. But def keep an eye.

If the ridges on the leaves get super pronounced and blueish tinted, your ph has swung up. If you get sudden cal mag deficiency, its swung down. That one seems like it has both, but very minor. Makes me thing the ph is bouncing around a bit.

Ive had some plants that i have to keep PH dialed organic or synthetic if bottle fed.

Back to the fast blaster. One dip too low in DWC suddenly and cal mag lockout is everywhere overnight. Her land race parent was the same wy. Isnt that rapid in soil, and some plants could care less especially under the sun. But in a container PH can become important over time especially with bottle nutrients on lockout sensitive plants

I haven’t used any bottled nutrients, I read a chart and decided that was more ‘paying attention’ than I wanted.

These have a handful of meals and casting added to the soil. I did give it its first dose of gaia green power bloom (gave 10 scoops, could go up to 30). Might of just given it more nutrients than it needed.

Red leaf petioles are common on indoor plants, but not under real sunlight. (i dont know why that is, just something ive noticed over the years)

Wether its in a bottle dissolved in water, or its a granulated powder, or an organic time release top dressing, if its got a lot of nitrogen in it, its probably going to be fairly acidic. Ph is prob just bouncing a little bit before your micro organisms in the soil break stuff down.


I wouldnt worry about it too much unless it gets worse. Theres something goin on it doesnt like though for sure.

I will definitely keep an eye on it. Fun fact, this is the same plant that turned yellow and purple and almost died earlier this grow

well i wasnt sure if you were talking about the main stems of the plant being red, because i couldnt see those clearly enough. Thats caused by deficiency stress. I called the leaf stems petioles. thats what theyre called technically and wanted to draw the distinction so id know which you were talking about in the video lol.

Leaf stems are usually red under artificial light, not natural sunlight. Usually only happens if the plant is stressed out about something under natural sunlight. some will just do that though. One of my biggs phenos does but its my only one atm.

purple and yellow colors to leaves in veg is usually a phosphorous deficiency thing.

Some plants go naturally phosphorous deficient at the end of their life cycle. thats where all the cool late flower colors comes from. And cold also causes difficulty in processing and up-taking phosphorous, that's why it can trigger colors in many plants late fall. And plants that produce sugars as antifreeze intensify the effects. (Thats why maples and other trees get so brilliantly colored in the late fall before the leaves fall. )

Heat Stress Recovery, when and how

Sunny california did me dirty and roasted my plants. I didn’t check the weather and it hit 140 in my green house. Girls look okay, watered them well and put them in the shade. I do have some roasted leaves and what not. Curious how long I should wait to prune or feed, I don’t wanna stress them...

I don't know much about outdoor gros. I don't know what bag seed even is. But, indoor, I won't gro anything, if I don't know what it is. Each strain has different requirements, minor but just saying. Also there is a lot of work growing. I'm going to make sure the plant produces what I want. Indoors I can adjust my weather. Kind of hard outside.

May wanna get some soil acidifier and use a *very* small amount as top dressing and check it after a couple waterings and see what happens. Ive never used soil acidifier in a container plant though, but being in the realms of a just add water soil mix, i definitely wouldn't really want to flush it.

PH isnt as big a deal in a mix like yours, you have micro life breaking stuff down and buffering the roots of the plants a bit, but sensitive plants will still show some issues at a PH that high regardless of soil mix. When high, leaves like to droop up top, the ridges on the leaves get more pronounced, and the green goes a shade of almost blue. (some plants naturally have a blue green shade, most dont).

If being bottle fed exclusively, a PH that high would actually damage the plant within a few waterings.

oh yeah I’m learning that I set myself up for some work. Bag seed is a term I just learned for seeds you find in your bag of weed. Had some saved up for years, germinated like 15, got nine decent plants, and four were males.
