I'm new here and hoping to generate some leads on that beautiful roadkill skunk smell phenotype of old, where everyone knew you had the killer green skunk bud on your person, no matter how hard you tried to hide it. When the growing plant wreaks like Pepe Lepew, the flowers wreak form blocks away, and the cured buds in your pocket make you smell like a skunk from 10 feet away. I've tried everything commercially available to no avail. Anyone out there for the real stuff?

I would suggest you look on bulletin boards like Reddit or Facebook for seed traders. They usually have some old breeders hoarding some older type genetics that you may be looking for.

I've found some pretty good genetics doing it this way. The last couple that I'm still looking for are Chem Dawg and Jack Herer. I've seen them advertised as such but when I dig deeper, so far, they aren't originals and are hybrids.

Your remembering it being better than it was. Remember during that time the best of the best was hitting like 14%. Now they have gotten to 38%. Those old phenos disappeared for a reason.

That's the problem. It's not all about the THC content to some of us. And I am not remembering it better than it was. I'm telling an obviously inexperienced smoker that pot used to smell WAY STRONGER than it smells today.

How bad do I want those big, fat, tiger striped seeds that I would toss away with distain?

That's the problem. It's not all about the THC content to some of us. And I am not remembering it better than it was. I'm telling an obviously inexperienced smoker that pot used to smell WAY STRONGER than it smells today.

I remember the old 70’s Humboldt skunk, I lived there, Arcata/Eureka, and it was the bomb. It might not of had 30% THC, but it had enough to more than get the job done. THC content is only one factor in the experience. The taste/smell cannot be compared to anything around today. I’ve tried several different seeds that claimed to be skunk, sorry, not even close!

Pre-sinsemilla, Acapulco Gold, Panama Red, Columbian, and Thai sticks were the go-to strains on the west coast. They’re all still winners in my book. Acapulco Gold had a wonderful spicy taste, Columbian was earthy Panama Red was a heavy smoke, and Thai sticks were that wonderful sativa uplift and kinda sweet. Ahh, the 70’s!!

Disagree, the best weed ever was Red & Gold from the early '70s.

The real Skunk#1 which I grew and bred with for a decade was much better than anything today, & most folks who were actually there then will agree.

What most of the younger tokers think is the 'best weed ever' is marginal at best.

Real Skunk#1 disappeared because folks like myself tried to breed out the smell because it was uncontrollable indoors.

I am a new indoor grower. I started smoking weed in the mid 60's and growing in the early 80's. It really was weed back then. I can only imagine what my reaction to today's Cannabis would have been back then considering the amount you had to smoke.

so of all of us who were smoking before late 8o’s early 90’s, we know what the real high is and it didn’t go away and it wasn’t tolerance, it was breeding,..
we need breeding to stop as it has ruined the high, causes plant diseases viriods viruses weakens the immune system..
support the true farmers who have been doing it for generations in marijuana growing countries,.,
breeding really should be illegal unless there’s some sort of regulations to be one.. but every tom dick and harry is allowed to,..
now skunk,.. personally i think they got it wrong, they think one of the strains was a mexican, i think it was a strain from central asia as one of the crosses..

Yes, I completely agree the high is way different now. I really don't think you an call it "weed" any more. "Weed" could grow in more changeable conditions much more tolerant and forgiving to sudden changes and dummies like me. Breeding back then was crossing the male of one strain to the female of another strain by shaking the male flower on the female. Now it's high tech and exotic touchy stuff that can go from good to bad in a day or so. Conditions need to be near perfect 100% time now.

Dogs were doing fine as wolves before humans started breeding them selectively. I like to think about how far that human tinkering CAN bring about improvement.

obviously a subject that creates strong opinions..
but one thing for sure is since 1990 ish weed has gone downhill in every aspect other than the way it “looks”,..
all these diseases and viruses viriods are not an issue with landrace heirloom etc strains in marijuana growing countries it’s just with all this breeder weed,..
the biggest rip off in the industry is buying seeds and clones from breeders..
