I also wanna say, in case it came across wrong, that Im well aware that having a good set up doesnt instantly make you a good grower, you have to go through the learning process like everyone else and the more years you have it shows usually. But some people like me with limited resources can grow very good weed with what we have available. Some day I would like to upgrade my set up, and my house for that matter, but right now one works with what he has, I dont have a set up in which increasing CO2 is gonna make any difference with the lights I have and with no AC. Im glad enough that I can play with temps and humidities because I have several cheap in-line fans to increase or decrease airflow and hopefully get my VPD right for most of the time. Also if cheap LEDs have an advantage that would be that theyre very good stoves in winter with little wattage 🤣 I barely have to turn on my electric stove, only in very cold days. You could probably cook an egg on top of one of mine and its only 150W. I use aluminum baking molds as passive refrigeration on top of them... better than nothing pfhahaha.

Thanks, your not coming across wrong at all. I hear what your saying, no argument from me!

I've run this thread before with the same results. There are way too many variables to come up with a solid answer to this. Some strains are a little fluffy in flower, others are more dense. I've even seen this in strain details coming from seedbanks... Example, Northern Lights Bud Density rating 7 out of 10...So the strain could have something to do with it as well.

Grower skill and equipment can have a big effect on density.

Pests, disease, unknowns can also effect bud health etc...

Chemicals may be in use by some growers to "cheat" a bit.

As I typed before, in this hobby it could be this, could be that, maybe so maybe no..... Sometimes you go in circles or just spin you wheels a bit. This thread is a classic example, there is no definite answer...

In any case, I'll keep growing and learning ! To the guy that recommended " don't worry about bud density"--- I think you have the best answer here on the forum. I've decided to forget about it for now...

Thanks all !

Commercial weed is grown as fast as possible. It is pushed hard in grow and many use massive amounts of silica enhancer/bloom boost. Makes the buds hard and dense feeling. They also break the buds down farther than we do in finale trim and cure. So there hard little nuggets. Customers don't like paying for stem weight. And around here they drown the plants in CalMag throughout the grow. All weed in the dispensaries looks, smells, taste and smokes the same. Walk in and it smells like they washed the walls down with Calmag. I much prefer my product to anything in the dispensaries or on the street.
Nothing like growing for 20+ years only to walk into a rec disp (first in your life btw almost twilight zone episode feeling at first) meet a 20 something yr old trust fund kid who is "partner" in the buis....who ends up being an elitest asshole most would avoid. Your better off just providing as much as you can from your own gardens......Humans who chase money and profit rarely make good people!

I know exactly what your talking about ! Most of the weed I buy comes from delivery services, but the first time I visited a weed shop, it was exactly like the twilight zone. After almost 40 years hiding and scrounging up weed, here I was in a fancy store looking at buds on a shelf. It was crazy !

Side note: took 29 years off from weed, I'm back.

I don't know a trust fund baby one that has got into the business. Most invested there life savings and most have lost. Be it growing, dispensary or support industry. Massive investment with little to no return. It's been a blood bath here...

This is what I was hoping to hear! I get what you’re saying about the stems too, I’ve thought about this as well. I guess I don’t mind the stems, I just love looking at a full cola top, stems and all— they are like a work of art.

Now you’ve got me thinking I need to dissect one of my big tops to see if can figure out what they are doing…

And yep, my buds are so much smoother, fresh tasting and easier to light then the dispensary rocks…Maybe I’m not making mistakes with my grows.. thanks for the reply and great info…
If you're weed is loose growing temps may be high. Or it may be the strain. Your light should be producing dense nugs though

The rec market was a fools investment to begin with, only those who can operate in the red for 15 years and afford the taxes were ever going to make it, not to mention all the small rec businesses getting robbed and hustled in the grey areas. The ones who thought it was just beginning and the ones who knew it was over.
