I made seed years back and for some reason only 2 out of 40 sprouted. Is there something I should know or do when im making my own seed so they are viable?

How long ago is years back? I store mine in two zip locks with air removed and keep them in the dark in a room cooler than 72 degrees. The best way to store them for a longer period of time is to put them in the refrigerator.

I had a decade of luck in a canning jar. No special storage just kept them there.
I think some air is good but dark was most likely the best because they were exposed to Summer heat every year.
I now store in a cool place so we shall see how they do in 10 years. Oh and it helps to have a few thousand seeds although I had five out of five germinate after a decade and they became mommies and daddies to 10,000 F2s after 10+ years. So I say the jar is better then materials that gas-off like plastic
No kidding maybe they were poisoned? . Hey just thinking here. Glass .. It seems to be a better choice.

Good luck.

How are you germinating them ? I bought a vivosun seed tray with the wool and heating pad. I only had x2 of ten seeds pop up, I went to Home Depot and bought a cheap bag of organic topsoil that cost around 3 bucks. I've had every seed pop up since. I threw the heating pad and try in the trash, it was a waist of money. I put the topsoil in my tent so it has the light. They have us thinking we need all of this fancy chemicals and equipment so we'll spend. You don't! My plants get nothing more than molasses and worm castings. I use well water with no ph up or down. Cheap 100% organic. I bought fox farm soil and no longer use it, I use organic topsoil from Home Depot. I also reuse my soil because it is organic no chemicals added. When grown properly you get clean white ash when smoking. I hope it helps
