I don't understand about what you mean " when should i start the mother"? Wherever your at in the world would determine when you set out the plants by the length of daylight hrs. and temps. My plants i take clones from are usually 2+months old indoor tent. I take those cuts and root them and flip my mothers to flower.

Start today. In soil it takes 5 to 7 weeks of vegetative stage before it is mature. Then it will take approx. 14 days to root cuttings.
So that's 9 weeks, depending on where you are located on this big blue planet as to when they can go outside and thrive.

Yeah if you are wanting to take clones from a mother not yet started for this spring I would get that going right now : ) Sunday funday project! It’s always fun poppin seeds!✌️

Way to soon for me to begin my photos for outdoor. I only have that one 3x3x6 it's got those damn autos in it till the end of March. I can germinate seeds mid March and keep them under just a small CFL then place them in the tent which is my plan. I'm gonna run some outdoor autos but not in 1gal. pots like last summer.

I totally made my statement visualizing my shed and backyard lol! I didn’t even consider the space of OP 🤦‍♂️ I hear you for sure having the 3x3. And space being a big factor in when to get things started. My bad : )

Im in ohio

Looks like the earliest you could put those outside would be May 15. You would want to start taking the cuttings the last week of April.

1 week splash + 2 week sprout + 2 week solo. + 2 week one gallon + 2 week final pot = 9 weeks minimum lead time. So no later than middle of February start.

I would probably only give the plant 14.5 hours of lights on from the get go, if your intention is to use a mother for outdoor clones, or you are likely to trigger flower when you put it out, resulting in a reveg.

Thank you everybody for the advice which I did take and started the mama here we are 3 months later I've started my clones here are my clones are at 19 days and I flipped mama to her 12-hour schedule put her in with the autos that are just about done

@Galgrows - I start most of my plants from seed and then take clones during defoliation in preparation for changing the light cycle so my routine is quite similar to yours.

@ajpapenfuss - While a grower "can" clone from a flowering plant like your picture is showing, its not ideal because the cloned plant will go through reveg before it grows correctly. again If you were serious about running clones from these plants they should have been taken sooner. Also, there's not much sense in trying to clone an autoflowering plant if that is what you're hoping to do.

If you were to plant from seed today, it would take awhile to have clone-able branching ... like 6-8 weeks in soil. You would still have time to clone before placing these small plants outside in early July. You'll have up to 6 weeks of outdoor veg time before they begin flowering.

If you were to start from the already flowering plant, reveg could take up to a couple of months to complete before it starts growing normally again.
