So, I'll try to keep this short, but I found a high end garden store with many expert level growers to chat with. I was explaining to them that I struggle with yellowing mid to late flower and was looking for well draining soil to help remove salt buildup... They asked what I feed and when I told them Dynagrow, they gave me a "your a clown look".... I guess I'm Bozo,

Here is where the conversation went... (It was very obvious that they know there stuff !)... This is NOT bro science from them, just grow science from long time growers..

1. According to them all liquid nutrients are a HUGE no no. They went into great detail about salts, ions, etc... In fact, the store was huge, not a single bottled nutrient to be sold. They swear that dry nutrients or organic is the only way to go. Period ! They sell jacks, but recommended against this too... Whoa, my mind is blown. I'm not agreeing with them, but I am listening... More on this later..

2. They explained that there are better ways, using slow release nutrients. They insisted that this is the way to go and there is NO risk of salts building up this way... In fact, they went into great detail explaining how there are NO salts in the nutrient tablets they sell... I didn't get it, it was way over my head, but the bottom line is that the nutrients they recommend go into the soil once, that's it... Just water for the life of the plant. (Yes, this is mind blowing and against everything I've learned.)

3. They sold me a bag of these big nutrient pellets for 7 dollars (enough for around 20 grows)... I'll have to look at the bag to get the name of this weird and new (to me) nutrient option...

4. As I was leaving many of the customers over heard me and RAVED about the pellets I just bought... WOW>...

5. NEVER USE PERLITE !!!! Another mind blowing recommendation. They gave me many other options to consider..

6. Compost your soil----let it cook in the sun...Not optional at all according to them.

7. They insisted on using lime. Not dolomite lime (I mentioned this and they went into great detail all about dolomite lime being bad)...According to them lime is a must---

8. NO EPSOM Salt, another huge mistake according to them. Wow?

9. No cal mag ! A huge NO NO !!!!

Anyway, my next grow will NOT use liquid nutrients. Frankly, I'm sick of them anyway, I feel like I'm chasing my tail.. I'll be composting my own soil with Fox Farm Happy Frog/Fox Farm Light Warrior (just bought a bag) and NO perlite this grow.. I'll mix the soil and add a little rabbit manure and let it cook for a few months before use...

Anyway, my next grow will be in a completely different direction to experiment and try something new. Compost Soil, Add to pot, add a big nutrient pellet, and just water all the way to the end. We will see what happens...

I'll go out to my car later to take a picture of these pellets I bought. Chance are I'll get laughed at here too !

Maybe I should change my name to Bozo...

Anyway. I'm hoping someone knows what they are or has used them

Agriform 20-10-5--- Don't laugh ! I'm betting this is nothing new?

Im not so confident in these but you might find this useful. Also I grew plenty fine weed with no fade with jacks 20-20-20 so idk what they are on about. They seem to me like they just want to sell what they are selling, in the same way a car dealer will swear by even their biggest lemons if it gets them off the lot. But hey, maybe it works. If you use them Ill be watching.

Seem a lot like jobe’s fertilizer spikes! Looks like they’re popular with landscapers, putting new trees and bushes in! Looks like they last a long time! I could see using them Outdoors! Would be interesting to see how they do indoors! Pretty inexpensive!

they are basically right from what i know, a couple things i disagree with but nothing major..

I listen and learn with an open mind.. The interesting thing is how strongly they were against any liquid nutrients. This is not the first time I’ve seen people talk badly about liquid nutrients.

i hear you, I’ve read many good things about jacks and see people getting good results with them. The same goes for liquid nutrients. I’m not a big believer in what they’re preaching, but what the hell, you never know till you try.

I have watched a few growers on YouTube bash all chemical nutrients—calling them deadrients..

There are so many contradictory opinions in this hobby it will make your head spin after a while. I’m at the point now where I just try everything…

Thanks for taking the time to find this chart…

Kind of a joke, nobody was really laughing, I just regurgitated all the stuff I’ve learned from the cannabis community and they “chuckled on the inside politely” I used laugh to color up my title if that makes sense,

Here is an interesting fact. The president of Dynagrow said that bloom nutrients are not needed. I’ve seen many say the same. When asked why he sells bloom nutrients his answer was because the uneducated think they need them.

Unfortunately there are a lot of clowns in this hobby… I learned to grow from a weed community, not a grower communiy. My bet is that both sides have pros and cons…I’m looking for the pros and to learn good technique from both sides while dumping the BS.

My bet is the guy at this nursery is doing exactly like you say and growing trees not cannabis. I wouldn’t bet money on these tablets, but let’s just see…

He told me he ran a test on the same plants, one using a single tab, two tabs, and ready for this? One plant with 35 tablets. He said all of the plants did amazing and the plant with 35 tablets did not get burned at all…

Hocus pocus? Smoke being blown up my a$$ lol, yea very possible. This should be fun to try anyway. Liquid nutrients are the opposite of fun if you ask me !

Are you trying them outdoors? Or indoors? And they aren’t organic if that makes a difference. I don’t see why they wouldn’t work!

Well, the directions are a bit odd on the usage, but I’ll figure it out. I’ll be using them in 3 or 5 gallon cloth pots indoors.

Plan is to think more about building a soil instead of just using it out of the bag. They really sold me hard on soil preparation as a must do… My bet is good soil alone is half the battle, the tablets are probably icing on the cake or there to make up for anything missing,

I don’t fully understand the chemistry of “salts” what they do etc,, Anyone know a good book to read on this subject? The main point I took away from my visit is that it is impossible to have too much salt building up while using these tablets.

Looking at them, it seems to be salts just like any other nutrient, this I don’t understand. Maybe the slow release is why they don’t burn plants?

Im doing the same with my next grow, ive collected mole hills from a field with cattle in it, hopefuly it will be full of microbial life , added some worm castings, grass cuttings, perlite, and a bit of coco and fresh rabbit droppings. i also stewed some rabbit dung in warm water for 24 hrs and watered the pots with that. plus its going to be outside so completely different grow,

They shamed you, "educated" you, and then you spent your money there? This is why I like finding my own way. The failures and successes are the best teachers. Often, people are "preachers." If they offer you some Kool-aid, run away.

They aren't wrong, they just lack tact and respect. Shit, now I'm preaching lol.

Have they ever grown cannabis? I bet not

Well said

I'm so very leary of these prolonged slow release tablets. I still use the dyna grow/super thrive cause it's simple maybe not the best or strongest but it's been around for long time, i am pleased how it works for me.

I was listening until "never use perlite"

Yeah maybe not always for everything but "never"? That's when I start thinking people are taking contrarian positions just for the attention and they think it makes them sound smarter because they have some kind of inside info you don't.

I tend to trust salespeople more when they show me why their product is better and not trash whatever I'm using now. As soon as I got that "you're a clown look" I'd be out. Trying to make a sale by convincing the customer you're smarter than them, when you know them a whole 60 seconds is a terrible sales tactic that only works on people who are actually less knowledgeable or just impressed by the fancy store.
