I was listening until "never use perlite"

Yeah maybe not always for everything but "never"? That's when I start thinking people are taking contrarian positions just for the attention and they think it makes them sound smarter because they have some kind of inside info you don't.

I tend to trust salespeople more when they show me why their product is better and not trash whatever I'm using now. As soon as I got that "you're a clown look" I'd be out. Trying to make a sale by convincing the customer you're smarter than them, when you know them a whole 60 seconds is a terrible sales tactic that only works on people who are actually less knowledgeable or just impressed by the fancy store.
Agreed.......

I like to experiment and try new things. You cant trust a word anyone says these days, so I have doubts as well.

For 8 dollars, I couldn't resist. Lets have some fun and run a little test all, sound like a plan?

Buying some C99/ Northern Lights seeds now or may use some seedsman freebies. (White Widow, Durban Poison)

You guys have to admit that IF (I say IF in capitals) this works, it will be a pretty cool find..

They shamed you, "educated" you, and then you spent your money there? This is why I like finding my own way. The failures and successes are the best teachers. Often, people are "preachers." If they offer you some Kool-aid, run away.

They aren't wrong, they just lack tact and respect. Shit, now I'm preaching lol.

Sorry man, I over did the title a bit. The folks at the store were cool, they were laughing politely on the inside if that makes sense...

In life, you really never know if someone is telling you the truth or blowing smoke up your A..

Ease up a bit all, its just something new to try. Lets keep this fun.

Feathers seem to be catching a breeze here, not quite full ruffle, but getting there it seems.... I'd go back to edit the title, but late edits really suck here on THC Farmer... I love the people, but hate the format..

Maybe I'll fly away to another forum ..... its becoming a problem for me.

Love the Elaine Bennis pic, that's classic...

"How'd it go last night"

"He took IT out"...

Have they ever grown cannabis? I bet not

I have a question for you.

You have two teachers to choose from:

1. The Bro Science DUDE----Grows Cannabis only, never graduated high school. Smokes weed 24/7---no longer gets high because they are high all the time.

2. A person dedicating there life to growing plants. A masters degree in horticulture and owning a highly respected garden center in the city...

In any case, I sift goodness from both camps dumping the BS... I will say the BS is much deeper in camp 1 though...

Like many things there are multiple ways to skin a cat. I would argue salt guys and organic guys both grow great bud. But like anything on the internet, in science, and in irl, question everything! Lots of bs everywhere you look unfortunatly...

I'm around 8 grows in now. Tried multiple nutrient lines, Fox Farm, DynaGrow. I've tried Coir and many different brands of soil and yes the cat got skinned. (I got tasty buds)...

Trying to cut down on words, I type too much but I tried a cheap fox farm dry nutrient line and it was my best grow. You just sprinkle a little dry nutrients on the soil and water in over time. (Fox Farm Cultivation nation veg). What blew my mind was how healthy my plant was and I didn't have to do a thing for many weeks except to water. KISS is my thing, I like this.

What I'm saying is the liquid/dry nutrients do work, but I'm ready to try something different to have fun and experiment with... Lets see what AgroForm pellets do...

I’ve had a vegetable garden and grown flowers for a long time. Just started back in growing weed I think 4 years ago, out in the open in my vegetable garden. When I first joined this site I didn’t even know what a “nute “ was. I’ve always fed my garden constantly and organically. I use a tiny bit of organic fertilizer, spray with kelp every 5 days. That’s it. If my veggies and flowers grow, so does my weed. Listen to everyone, you can figure the good advice from bullshit.

If you could drop one of those pellets in a DWC bucket and call it a day, then maybe you'd be on to something

I'm so very leary of these prolonged slow release tablets. I still use the dyna grow/super thrive cause it's simple maybe not the best or strongest but it's been around for long time, i am pleased how it works for me.

I've had good results with Foliage Pro--can't say anything bad about Dynagrow, I highly recommend it and may use it again...

Perlite is used with great success by many... Its good stuff, no argument !

The interesting thing was that he had many alternatives to try that he insisted are better. I'm curious to see what he's on about....(Sorry, my memory does not remember what he said, he mentioned something like Vermiculite, but thats not it...

I like perlite, BUT !!!! Its f ing expensive were I live, my hydro store wants 100 bucks for a big bag of course perlite (the good stuff) I buy the cheap stuff and have to sift all the dust out and rinse or I get sludge... It also has a tendency to float in soil, which I don't like...

Perlite is amazing, but Rice Hulls and other alternatives have my interest. Hell, I can always use perlite AND these other options. I love well draining soil..

Good! Done deal! You’re doing it! Let’s see what happens!😁🐒

You missed 1 very important teacher, it is called experience, I have forgotten more about growing than most know.
Am I all sciency, nope, never claimed to be.
The the title of this thread is rather provocative and insulting of course folks are going to respond in kind.

I listen and learn with an open mind.. The interesting thing is how strongly they were against any liquid nutrients. This is not the first time I’ve seen people talk badly about liquid nutrients.

i hear you, I’ve read many good things about jacks and see people getting good results with them. The same goes for liquid nutrients. I’m not a big believer in what they’re preaching, but what the hell, you never know till you try.

I have watched a few growers on YouTube bash all chemical nutrients—calling them deadrients..

There are so many contradictory opinions in this hobby it will make your head spin after a while. I’m at the point now where I just try everything…

Thanks for taking the time to find this chart…

Yeah, my avatar was a plant grown with jacks, though I did supplement it with water form my aquarium.

I suspect the "best" way to grow is some combination of salt/organic nutrients, depending on the particular plant.

Those nutrient plugs are really cheap so if they work well that would be quite the find.

Only thing holding me back is odor, I'm working on adding a second carbon filter to my grow cabinet. I'm hoping my AC Infinity fan can handle two filters?
Hopefully! You’ve got Two months to figure that out! Get to popping!😆👍

Well, the directions are a bit odd on the usage, but I’ll figure it out. I’ll be using them in 3 or 5 gallon cloth pots indoors.

Plan is to think more about building a soil instead of just using it out of the bag. They really sold me hard on soil preparation as a must do… My bet is good soil alone is half the battle, the tablets are probably icing on the cake or there to make up for anything missing,

I don’t fully understand the chemistry of “salts” what they do etc,, Anyone know a good book to read on this subject? The main point I took away from my visit is that it is impossible to have too much salt building up while using these tablets.

Looking at them, it seems to be salts just like any other nutrient, this I don’t understand. Maybe the slow release is why they don’t burn plant
